The new
ODRTS health scheme commenced on June 1st, 1987, and
it is without doubt the best health scheme operating within the
cab trade. It was originally designed and negotiated exclusively
for all members of this society but the Board of Management felt
it had a moral responsibility to those ex members who were also
in the Archway scheme. For this reason the health scheme was
offered to ex members within the Archway scheme at a £3.00 per
month commission to cover expenses. As at the 10th of July membership so far has reached 335, but because it was designed and negotiated with at least 600 members participating 335 is not very impressive, especially considering our total membership. Why the response has been so abysmal I really do not know. What I do know is that not one of you belongs to a better health scheme than this one being offered to you. Unless the response greatly improves the scheme will be made available to other cabs drivers and in this respect we are in communication with Radio Taxis London Ltd (Mountview). Mr Samuels, Chairman of Radio Taxis made contact on behalf of his members to join our scheme following their approach to messrs Bain Clarkson Ltd who referred them to us. By the time you read this, those of you in the health scheme should have received the relevant certificates for your retention CREDIT UNION The ODRTS has applied to start a credit union and before we can complete the necessary forms we require at least 25 interested members. Also required are 11 members to form the Board of Directors, the Credit Committee and the Supervisory Committee. If you are interested in a credit union please let me have your name and call sign Should you be further interested in the positions to be filled, please indicate. _______________________________________ ANNOUNCEMENTS Mr R.Gold (A18) is still experiencing setbacks and presently
awaiting the arrival of contact lenses from Germany, which
should be sometime during July. Hopefully, once in place Mr Gold
will be able to return to work so fingers crossed for him
because he was originally advised his cataract operation would
take 13 weeks and so far he has been off work over six months.
We wish him better luck than he has had. His wife Sonia has also
not returned to work either and there is every possibility that
she will take early retirement for health reasons. Every good
wish to them both. |
breakdown and is
receiving treatment at the Nightingale Hospital. Although he
does go home at weekends, Mr Levinson was given the wrong
medication from his GP and following detoxication of this drug,
placed on the correct drug for his situation and fully expect
him to be back to work before very long. We all wish him well
for a speedy recovery. Mr B.Moss (F32) has a condition which has yet to be analysed satisfactorily because at present it seems to be a guessing game and, following the result of tests already made, encourage wholeheartedly Mr Moss not to accept the unjustifiable conclusions made without medical proof of same. Personally, I consider Mr Moss has been under considerable pressure which ultimately culminates to stress and that needs an outlet of some kind. This period off work I am sure will do him the world of good as long as he doesn’t take too seriously what the doc is advocating. Rest ,Mr Moss, and get well. Mr J.F.Thompson (L23) is another member off work with haemorrhoids. Hopefully he will not suffer too much. We all wish him a full and speedy recovery. I will call on Mr Thompson this coming month. Mr C Riley (W93) is home recouping following an operation and we all wish him every good wish for a speedy recovery. I will call on Mr Riley as well this coming month. Mr C. Perry (D52) was in extremely good spirits when I visited him to enquire of his progress following a bowel operation. A couple of days later he returned to the specialist for a check up and very kindly telephoned to let me know that all was well. Mr Perry will be off work for at least a further three months by which time with complete rest and perseverance with certain foods, he will fully recover. If you know Mr Perry, do call for a visit because you will be made very welcome and he does enjoy a chat. We all wish him well. Many thanks to his friend Mr J.Williams (L39) who advised us of Mr Perry’s circumstances – very commendable Mr Williams. Mr Lester (ex C51) as always does not cease to amaze me. Our chairman, Kenny Burns indicated an interest to visit Mark - he also calls on our "walking wounded" – as well as myself when he is available, albeit not often does he organise a mutually convenient date, which is not easy with my schedule or Kens. Prior to this visit I learnt from Mark’s wife that he had angina and has been admitted to the Northwick Park hospital with chest pains. Angina itself is regulatory but with Mark’s past medical history, it is not that simple. Mark is still under the Middlesex hospital and there is now talk of a further "by pass" operation. As always, I trust Mark is in your prayers. Condolences and deepest sympathy to Mr D.Mitchell (Y64) and his family on the very sad loss of his mother. Apologies to Mr Mitchell for my non-attendance at the funeral. Numerous phone calls were made to ascertain details but to no avail – but I was with you in spirit. Mr V.Isaacs (K44) is still awaiting a date for his by-pass operation and hopes to be able to enjoy the fine weather! Because of a minority of members of this society who appear to have a vendetta towards me for reasons best known to themselves, I shall not be writing any further articles for Call Sign. Should any of you like an update regarding the health scheme, please either telephone me or call into the office any Tuesday or Friday. |
