Okay, so youd forgotten
all about Christmas 1998 by now! But there were ten drivers who, on January 21st
at Brunswick House, remembered vividly their Christmas work. These were the ten winners
who shared £5500 between them in the drivers Christmas Incentive competition. Not surprisingly, none of them seemed to agree with Mailshot correspondent Ray Sorene (A53), who disagrees with the principle of having a competition for working at that socially inconvenient time of year, believing that the money should |

have been shared by everyone who
worked over the period. £1000 winner Harold Harris told Call Sign: "This money couldnt have come at a better time as Im going away in March with my wife and some friends to Florida." As for his view on competitions? " I enjoy them, I came second in the Call Sign Television competition and before that won the Weekend Away break! I believe that when you go to work in the cab, you are working for yourself. I would have done these rides regardless but I dont see why if someone does virtually no credit work, they should share in these extra incentives." Harold went on to say that he had been driving a cab for 26 years and been on DaC for well over half that time. Congratulations, Harold |
In second place -
and £900 better off - came Kurt Goldschmidt who knocked his brother Herbert into third
place with £800. Kurt told Call Sign that he had been driving a cab for 27 years of which
all, bar his first year, had been spent on DaC having joined under the Chairmanship of
Martin Gellman. He too had a good use for his sudden windfall: "My cab goes into
overhaul this week" he told us, "this money takes all the pressure away
from it." As for the competition itself?: "I cant see the point in sharing out the money between everyone who worked - wed all just get a few quid each and where would be the incentive to cover credit work? In fact, I was working fairly normally and would have done most of this work regardless, as I do mainly account work anyway. But this type of incentive still provides that little extra push. I think they are a good idea." |
Call Sign sends its
congratulations to all the lucky winners. DIAL A CAB GOLF YEAR 1999 We are fast approaching the Dial-a-Cab golfing calendar. This year will see the annual JRTA golf day being played around the beginning of July and although the venue is yet to be set, it looks as though it will be in the north-west of town. Fourteen players are chosen for this competition, twelve drivers and two from members of staff. Two drivers have already been selected for the team and they are last years knockout winner and runner-up. The other ten places will be played for at this years Dial-a-Cab golf day. This will be played sometime in June and the venue is still to be set. A knockout competition will be arranged and, unlike last year, we hope to play the early round matches against local players. This will ensure matches are played on time and drivers will not have too much travelling to do. The semi-final and final will be played on the same day at one of the top courses - hopefully in September. As soon as Peter Boxall (B89) and I get together to set some dates, entry forms will become available. Watch out for further information. Keith Cain |
