Dial-A-Cab christmas logo draw

WIN A HOLIDAY IN FLORIDA

The DaC logo draw winner in December is going to have the holiday of a lifetime. Whoever's call sign is drawn out of the hat first just before Christmas, will win an all-expenses paid seven night holiday for two at the Holiday Inn Family Suites Hotel in Orlando, Florida! The prize includes a return British Airways flight to Orlando.

The Holiday Inn Family Suites Hotel is situated at Buena Vista which is a short ten minute ride away from the Magic Kingdom of Disney (with free transport if required).
As the Family Suites sleep up to six people, if you want to take the family and are happy to pay for their flights, then the two queen size beds and sofa bed will get you all away together!
The hotel has a fitness centre, three swimming pools, air conditioning, cable TV plus all the usual stuff such as in-room tea/coffee facilities, microwave etc...
There is a also games room for kids, a playground, special pool and fun packs. This is an ideal family holiday resort... and of course there is Disney...!

Everyone who has a logo is registered. If your name comes out and you don't have a logo, you won't win the prize. Get your logo now or miss out on the holiday of a lifetime.

The November £300 logo winner's name came too late for this issue and will be included in the next issue (January 2000).

OBITUARY

DaC Driver Fred Lovegrove Dies Aged 87

Call Sign is sad to report the death at the age of 87 of Fred Lovegrove (F2J). Many older subscribers will have fond memories of Fred as he was always ready for a chat and a smile. He had been driving a taxi for a monumental 64 years of which 29 were on Dial-a-Cab and up until last year, Fred was still working weekends driving his son John's cab (F2).
Fred had been carrying on a family tradition as his own father had been the driver of a Hansom cab. Son John is on Dial-a-Cab and Fred was thrilled when grandson Gary passed the Knowledge to make a fourth generation of Lovegrove cabbies - certainly an achievement to be proud of and one which will not be easily equalled.
Condolences go from everyone within the Dial-a-Cab organisation - BoM, staff, drivers and Call Sign.

Dial-a-Cab Fishing

The match turned out to be a winning debut for Kevin McDonald (Com Cab) who put a superb 43-6-0 of skimmers and crucians on the scales, fishing meat and caster over pellet on the pole.
Kevin took the Open trophy and £150 first prize plus pools and the Com Cab shield.
Runner up was our old mate Freddie (Kruger) Sykes who drew the stumps peg on the causeway (a big fish peg). Sadly, Fred's downfall was a combination of fishing too light a tackle to begin with, too small a landing net (no good for big carp, Fred) and of course, the stumps. All this conspired to leave Fred with only three of the eight carp he had hooked finding their way into his net with his best weighing in at 11-5-0 and Kruger was left to think what might have been. But 24-9-0 on the scales, the runner's up trophy, £ 110 plus pools was ample consolation!
Third place went to another Com Cab driver in Mickey Coogan. His 20-9-0 of skimmers and crucians on long pole put him well clear of anybody else in his section.

THE MOCATRA TAXI TRADE OPEN - Frant Lakes, Kent Sponsored by Dial-a-Cab

Report by Tony Blythe (T92) alias Captain Chaos

Fourth place went to the top Mocatra member in Dial-a-Cab's very own Howard Groome (S94)
who hooked a carp just before the final whistle and what a bonus it turned out to be tipping the
scales at 13-3-0. Howard took the KPM trophy and a £100 prize for the biggest carp plus £50 fourth prize for his overall total of 20-0-0 + the Dial-a-Cab trophy (surely not a packet of Birds Eye Frozen Chips?...Ed).
As for the rest of the

Dial-a-Cab-drivers who took part, only John Donovan (A7) came out with any distinction, winning his section with 9-12-0. Both myself (T92) and that south London thug Mickey Woods (G9) were both fortunate to pick up prize money for fourth place in our sections while this years Mocatra champion, Billy Baldock (E27), drawn along side the winner, was beaten by in excess of 401bs. I think Bill that his means you have had your **** well and truly slapped! Its not often that I get the chance to slag Bill off, as he's been fishing better than ever this season apart from this one hiccup.
Finally a special thanks from all at Mocatra to Brian Rice & Co at Dial-a-Cab for their generous sponsorship helping us to make this trade show a real success.
