Many
of the much-valued clients of Dial-a-Cab - together with some trade
guests - were thanked for their support of our
organisation over the past twelve months by
receiving invitations to a Summer Ball held in the beautiful
surroundings of the HAC barracks in City Road. An evening described by many of the guests as the "ball of the year" swung non-stop from the Champagne reception in the marquee overlooking the cricket ground where possible future test players were strutting their stuff, to the excellent dinner in the main hall while wandering magicians pulled aces from various parts of the astonished guest’s anatomies! Then there was the atmospheric upstairs casino where, to the accompaniment of a great jazz band, guests were given ‘toy money’ to play with knowing that the person with the evening’s highest winnings would go home with a magnum of Champagne. All the time, guests could dance to Ray McVay’s band of the day! Honoured guest and Dial-a-Cab founder Chairman Bonnie Martyn - |

accompanied
by wife Carol - told Call sign that he could not remember
a finer evening. Bonnie and Carol received a
nice surprise when Chairman Brian Rice presented
them with a magnum of Champagne on the occasion of their wedding anniversary. "How did they know that" cried Bonnie! Brian was about to tell |
Bonnie that
he would bring the bottle to him when Bonnie’s 90 year
old legs scampered up to the stage to receive the
gift. With few leaving before two in the morning, it was indeed a night that our clients and guests will not forget too quickly. A pictorial description of the Ball will appear in the next Call Sign... |
