Mailshot continued were issued against the BoM? More hypothesis ? Thank you for your letter, Colin. I have to say that I think you must have read a
different copy of Call Sign than me because re-reading the Editorial you refer to, I find
it difficult to understand your conclusions and assumptions unless, of course, you write
in your position as a committee member of the LCDC rather than a DaC subscriber. Of course
nobody objects to David Clegg having a Barrister, but I think that you should bear in mind
that no one at DaC had or has taken any sort of legal action against him whatsoever. It
was HE who issued the writs against DaC and myself and all this society has done is to
defend itself. My surmising in the Editorial was that it would be rather surprising if a
trade organisation were to provide the funds necessary to pay a Barrister to represent a
subscriber issuing writs against his radio circuit. And surely no self-respecting
Barrister being paid for privately by an individual client would write such a biased
Court Report for a trade paper (ie The Badge, June 98) while the case was
progressing? Then the August 98 issue of The Badge contained the phrase: "Could it be
that our legal eagle and our court reporter are one and the same?" What assumption
should I make, Colin? Brian Rice comments: Since Alan Fisher began editing Call Sign back in June 97, it is fair to say that neither I, nor any member of my Board, have interfered in any way, shape or form with his editorship. He has complete control over the contents and my only job other than writing the Chairmans Report is to proof the finished product. However, when I read Mr Marshalls letter, I asked Alan if I could have some space for a brief reply. This is it: |
"Your
comments on the BoM above obviously point your support to David Clegg. As Alan says,
everyone must make their own mind up. However, added to your comments is the matter of a
letter that you sent to Trevor Clarke, the Company Secretary, asking for a breakdown of
the BoM earnings. In itself, you have the right to ask, however I notice that you only
joined DaC on the 7th May 1998 - approximately 18 weeks prior to writing your
Call Sign letter, even less for the one sent to Trevor and 8 weeks after David Clegg
issued his writs. Can we assume that your only reason for joining this society was to gain
better quality work - or is there something you havent told us?" GOING HOME I emailed your letter to our software people in Indiana and they tell me that we are now going to test some experimental going home software. Roy Masterson in our Call Centre told me that it could possibly be ready before Christmas but they will not take any risks with new software at such a busy time, therefore it seems more probable that an after-Xmas switch on seems likely Ed WHAT THE POLICEMAN DIDNT SEE! |
the theatre , I
saw a minicab tout parked behind my cab with the driver accosting people trying to get
them into his car saying that he was a taxi. As you can guess, I was not very pleased. His
would-be customer walked away but he saw me looking at him, so he came up to my wife and I
and asked if we wanted a taxi. My reply was: "I am a proper taxi driver"
pointing to my taxi, "
and you are not allowed to do what you are doing so ****
off!" A minute later he approached some more people, so I went back and told the
people that he was not a proper taxi driver and was not allowed to do that. They asked me
how much it would cost to the Tower Thistle hotel. I told them that it would come to about
£7 - £8 on the meter. I asked them how much the tout had asked for and they said that he
had wanted £15. They thanked me profusely. In the meantime, the tout could see that I was
going to hang around while he was still there so he finally left. My wife had taken his
number so we decided to go to the police station, give them his number, tell them what had
happened and get him done! The police took the number but told me that they couldnt
do anything as it would only be my word against his. They said they could only charge
someone if a policeman actually saw them touting. Now Ive heard it all! I suppose
that if Id witnessed a murder or an armed robbery, my word would not be good enough
and they would have to do it again in front of a policeman! No wonder the touts are
laughing at us and taking our business away. Well done Trevor. If only everyone cared as much as you obviously do Ed CANARY WHARF TO WESTMINSTER As you are aware, there are some drivers that are cheating the system and keeping the 'good' jobs amongst themselves. Would it not be fair to all drivers if you have done one of these good jobs - Andover, wait and return as an example - you should not be allowed to carry this |
