Dial-a-Cab's Bal, Bungee Jumps for Dial-a-Dream |
On Sunday May 31st, Baldesh Sandhu, one of the
young telephonists employed in the Dial-a-Cab Call Centre, decided to raise money for a
charity. The one she decided on was Dial-a-Dream, the charity that realises dreams for
terminally ill children. Dial-a-Dream was formed in a back office at our headquarters of
Brunswick House in 1991. A newspaper suggested the name because the founders of the
charity were mainly Dial-a-Cab subscribers. The venue selected for Bals Bungee jump was Adrenaline Village, Chelsea Bridge. On the Wednesday prior to the selected date, Bal was taken ill, but with the strong will power that she possesses, she forced herself to appear for the ordeal. Each jumper was given a number and as her time got nearer, you could see by her face that she was beginning to have second thoughts, but was determined that nothing would stop her. As her time came, she had her legs strapped and a body harness put around her before hopping into the cage to be hoisted up to the jump height. As the cage rose into the air and with the wind whistling around her body, her adrenaline started to speed up. At that |
moment she asked herself what
she was doing up there - but it was too late! The cage went up to 100 feet, then 200 feet.
The view had become spectacular although the muddy shores of the River Thames that in a
few seconds she would be heading towards, were fast losing their appeal! Report by Tom Whitbread |
