Chas and a not-so-gay day…?
According to the English Oxford dictionary, a phobia
is an extreme or irrational fear of something and as
I do not fear homosexuals, I cannot be called
homophobic. But I am appalled by the fact that this
alternative lifestyle seems to be rammed down our
throats (no pun intended) as if it were the norm.
Back in 1997 when Tony and his ‘New Labour’ party came to power,
his one big mantra was-Educashon - Edukashon - and
more spelling. Having tried to rewrite history and
apologising for our conquests and colonisation, it
seems that now even the word Great
should be taken out of this countries name. While
airbrushing out the deeds of such heroes as Alfred
the Great, Henry V and Sir Francis Drake, in comes
their lifestyle and sexual orientation even if
history decrees otherwise. It is mooted that William
Shakespeare, married to Anne Hathaway and fathering
many children, could have been gay because it
appears to some that on reading between the lines of
some of his sonnets and poems, they could
have referred to another male. This brings a whole
new meaning to those immortal words to be or
not to be and alas poor Yorik, I knew
him well!
Others whose lifestyle will be studied include Leonardo Da Vinci,
James Dean, Freddie Mercury, Liberace, Hans
Anderson, Oscar Wilde, Martina Navratilova and Rock
Hudson. Why their lifestyles and not their greatness
in their chosen field should be discussed and

gay? The lifestyle of Bruce Wayne
and Dick Grayson - aka. Batman and Robin - should
also come under the scrutiny of today’s social
workers. How can a single, rich bachelor with a
butler living in a large mansion adopt a young boy?
What significance does the ‘Bat-cave’ hold and do
their masks really hold a secret identity? Or is it
even more sinister? Not only that, but why do they
wear their pants on the outside of their trousers?
Going back to the western era, how many remember those Mexican
caballero’s The Cisco Kid and Pancho, not to mention
Zorro - the gay blade? A case could even be made for
the Lone Ranger with his partner Tonto! We never did
find out the meaning of those famous words ‘Kemo

As if even more proof were needed to corroborate the previous
paragraphs, several councils have now removed the
word marriage from their registry offices and
renamed them ceremony rooms. This is because it
may upset the gay community who can now
have a civil ceremony. Note the wording from the
councils - may.
Why does this country pander to the minority, as it is supposedly
just 1 in 10 people who are gay which makes them the
minority. Why not go the whole hog and drop the
words birth and death as well, as death certainly
upsets most people in one way or another and as a
gay couple cannot have children by nature, surely
the word is superfluous?

immortalised is beyond me.
People rise to greatness, not
because of their sexual orientation, but by their
own determination and self-belief.
As if it were a sign from above, a film came out (again no pun
intended) in January, which is deemed to be in the
running for several Oscars and Golden Globes. The
film tells of two modern day cowboys from the 1960s
who are gay and how they go about life. Surely John
Wayne must be turning in his grave? Can’t the
filmmakers leave the public with the myth of ‘men
being men’ alone? I
suppose a remake of Calamity Jane, based loosely on
Annie Oakley, will portray her as a lesbian, or that
Robin Hood could also be a bit suspect with his
‘merry men’ taking on a completely new meaning -
never mind his association with the Sheriff of
Nottingham and Maid Marion coming between them!
And what of our other childhood comic heroes? What was the real
significance of the phone box to Superman? Was he
