All trips non-rejectable?As we
know, there is normally a lack of taxi usage throughout
August and for the first few weeks of September due to
client’s annual holidays. Nevertheless, it is still
important that the Customer Service team continue to make
regular contact with account clients and visit when
necessary. I believe this pro-active approach will
undoubtedly help pre-empting any issues when we do get
busier. We will shortly be inundated with work due to public
concerns about travelling on the underground.
Unfortunately this lack of confidence will continue for some
time to come. Street work has of course increased, but drivers rejecting credit trips in favour of cash is having an effect on our service. Please remember that cash trips can never be as much financial value as account work. As you have read in the previous issue of Call Sign and with more detail in Keith Cain’s report in this issue, the Board has had to invoke the 40-job rule in an effort to combat increasing rejects. |
![]() Although I am not advocating a policy where all trips should be dispatched as non-rejectable, however, if we were to go in that direction it would undoubtedly improve our service and drivers would be earning more revenue instead of gambling that the next job might be a ‘roader’. The Sales team are extremely successful in bringing on board new accounts, nevertheless keeping the accounts long term without optimum service could prove to be a problem for the future. A meeting has taken place with the Corporation and the City of London Police to discuss all parking and security issues. A consultation document is being compiled and should be ready for interested parties to peruse later this month. In the meantime, should you receive Penalty Charge Notices (PCN), I suggest you appeal. Some drivers have been successful. If you do wish to appeal against the PCN, you must make your appeal in writing within fourteen days. However, I must make it quite clear that if you pick up, drop off or park on pedestrian crossings, stop within box junctions or enter a prohibited bus lane, the appeal will not be allowed. In the meantime, these Taxi "guidelines" from the City Corporation may help… Mike Son |
NEW TAXI RANK IN CROUCH END |
How often have you taken a job to
Crouch End and thought to yourself that this could be a
really good cab area, yet no one was trying to hail you? What may well help is the appointment of a new taxi rank for 3 taxis at The Broadway close to the clock tower in Crouch End. The rank is on the east side of the roadway commencing at a point 15 metres south of the junction with Weston Park and extends 18 metres in a southerly direction adjacent to the Nationwide Building Society premises. Taxis working on this rank should face southeast. Something like this could help to get the locals to go to the rank for a cab and if there are none there, then to look out for one instead of walking to the local minicab office. But it will only work if it is serviced… |
