DaC Driver Alan Yuchetel at the House of Commons - one of 100 from DaC
Monday 1 August was a red-letter day at the Houses of Parliament it was the day that Dial-a-Cab visited the nations ruling seat. After years of DaC taking their staff home, it seemed about time that we had a look inside their office and 100 free passes were sent to Tom Whitbread by the Keith Prowse Ticket Agency to be used by our drivers and staff, many of whom took their families.
Denise, wife of DaC driver Alan Yuchetel (L44), told Call Sign that they had a most amazing afternoon.
"Being a  born and bred Londoner does not necessarily mean that Ive seen all the sights that our amazing city has to offer and I am ashamed to admit that I had never been to the Houses of Parliament. So when my husband Alan told me that Dial-a-Cab had offered drivers and staff the opportunity to get tickets for a free guided tour, I jumped at the chance, especially as I was then on holiday from work. Initially I

was disappointed as all the
available tickets had been claimed, but then a few days later some more became
available and Alan was lucky enough to get the final 3 tickets.
Then on Monday 1 August, Alan, myself, my friend Sue who also works in a school and was on holiday and lots of DaC
members made our way down to Westminster. The tickets were complimentary to promote tours that are being run all through August until 5 October during the summer recess. The tours are run every 15 minutes and there are four groups of up to 25 people with each tour being led by a blue badge qualified guide.
Our guide was Victoria and she was absolutely excellent. Her level of knowledge of the buildings, history and customs  amazed me. She captivated me and all our group with anecdotal stories concerning people and the Houses of Parliament in general. Often when you have a personal guide, much of what they say goes over your head as they tend to be a bit dry in the way that they relay the facts.  With Victoria, this was certainly not the case.
As this was a promotional tour, the groups were not that large and there were many opportunities to ask questions and engage in conversation with the guide, she was very friendly and not at all stand-offish.
After the tour, which I might add passed all too quickly, there was a chance to view a free exhibition on Guy Fawkes and to
visit the souvenir shop which
I have to say had some really tasteful things and was certainly not overpriced.
We concluded our afternoon by visiting the Coffee Shop, which adjoined the Houses of Parliament. That was also no let down. The food was of a good
quality, self service but everything was clean ie the tables etc. I might add that it gives Starbucks and Coffee Republic a run for their money!
The backdrop of the Houses of Parliament provide an excellent backdrop for a photo shoot which of course we did, oh yes, and we did have to have a photo of the old man himself - Big Ben!
Its a long time since Ive had such an enjoyable afternoon and learnt something at the same time! At 7 a tour, I know Alan would not hesitate to recommend it to those travelling in his taxi and I hope you will all do likewise. My thanks to Dial-a-Cab"
   Jim Rainbird (T25)
was another who made the trip
   "
It was a really excellent tour, especially for someone like myself who enjoys history. I would love to have gone into the bell tower, but sadly that is off-limits. But there was more than enough there to keep me happy.  It was also nice to see so many DaC drivers and their families there. I always knew that DaC would rule the country one day, so it was nice to see where we would be moving to from Brunswick House!"
