In November 2004, Call Sign did a small piece on a 2005 calendar featuring two Dial-a-Cab ladies - and ten others connected to the licensed taxi trade - who were wearing somewhat less clothing than they usually do! All money raised from sales of the cleverly named Cablendar, were for the annual Disney trip to Paris in which the Company of Hackney Carriage Drivers take terminally ill and disabled children to the Magic Kingdom for a weekend.
DaC driver / marshal Pat Graves (L53) was one of the DaC two and we wrote about her in May when the latest total raised was estimated at around £7000. The second DaC “representative” was Val Gomez – who you can usually see - fully clothed - in Driver’s Services!

Val gave us a recent update where the figure raised from selling the £5 cablendars had risen to £12,500, but with a substantial amount still to be added the organisers were hoping that it could push the total close to an amazing £20,000.
Does Val have any regrets about posing with little other than just a fan?

   “None whatsoever,”
she told Call Sign, “it was a wonderful

Inset: Val with just a fan to cover her modesty

cause. However, I must say
that modelling looks far more
glamorous in magazines where they pose in more salubrious and warmer places than a cab garage – albeit a rather posh one! And of course, if the total does get close to £20,000 then it will have been worth the

goose bumps!”

Our only question to Val should
have been where the logo on the
taxi was, but Call Sign has a reputation to consider! So well done to Val, Pat and the other ten ladies who bared more than their souls to help raise those much-needed funds.

LUCKY NUALA GETS HER PURSE BACK…
THANKS TO HER CALL SIGN FAME!

The irony of it! Nuala Glavin, from DaC’s Driver Services, had acted as an intermediary to help bring DaC drivers Kurt (B80) and Herbert (C83) Goldschmidt together with their long lost family after 50 years, thanks to them being tracked down via Call Sign’s website (you can read the story elsewhere in this issue).

Nuala then lost her purse containing cash and credit cards and it was found when someone put Nuala’s name into a search engine to try and trace her and came up with her ‘Just Wandering’ column - again from the Call Sign Internet site!

“I didn’t realise I’d even lost it until the Editor called to say that someone had found it, traced my name through the Internet search engine Google and my Just Wandering column,” said Nuala. “It would have been a miserable weekend had I later discovered it missing. I’m just so grateful that there are still such honest people about and of course, that Call Sign goes out on-line. But I really can’t get over the amazing coincidence…”
