DRIVER OPERATIONS AND MARSHALLING

Hello Ladies and Gents,

As you probably know by now, my office has relocated to Roman Way. I have been there for three months and hope that in this short time that the small changes I have now put into place have made the fitting bay a much more driver-friendly place to visit and that the later opening times have helped evening drivers.
There are still some drivers who have meters in their taxis that either have an intermittent problem or still do not transfer the information direct to their Dial-a-Cab terminal. If you clear a trip and still have to manually input the fare total, please contact Roman Way on 0207 700 4443 ASAP to arrange to have the equipment checked. We have tried on numerous occasions to contact the drivers and have also sent terminal messages to those concerned without any response. It now becoming a source for concern. Many of our regular clients receive reports as part of their contract with Dial-a-Cab and expect true and accurate information showing against all trips. As from 1 August 2005, a special attribute will be allocated to trips that require this information and it could prevent you from being offered such journeys if the meter is unable to transfer this information. The attribute may be removed until

such times that the necessary changes are in place.
I mentioned in last month’s article that the latest upgrade not only includes the date on receipts, but also has the fixes for the blank screen and loss of details. The fitting bay is now open until 7.30pm to help night drivers, so please pop in and have your terminal upgraded with the latest 3.4.3 version. If you are unsure or need advice on this matter, please contact either Keith Cain or myself.
Over the last month, we have had meetings with Grid Com and Motorola and there are a number of improvements that the Board are investigating which we are confident will help to improve the signals from the various base stations. We are also in discussion on a regular basis with our software experts in an ongoing effort to gradually illuminate the problems that are in most cases, quite complex, but ones that need

to be addressed.
You will soon be able to pick up an information sheet which explain how the new ranks at Cabot Square and Canary Wharf will operate. It has taken considerable time to reprogram and test the new system, which has been designed in the fairest way possible to offer all members the radio work that many want and have asked for.  The new ranks will be operational from Monday 4 July 2005 for a trial period and may be subject to change at short notice if the need arises. See Keith Cain’s report for further details.

Marshalling
June has been extremely busy on the Marshalling front, with large numbers of taxis used at many different locations. There have been some very lucrative fixed-price trips as well as highly incentified run-ins on some high profile events. Battersea Park is ongoing throughout July and it has become a very popular venue, again offering some very nice cash and credit card journeys. I have repeatedly mentioned that without your support, these events would not be as highly successful as they are. We are the market leaders in this field, so thank you and please keep up the good work!

PCO OPEN DAY

Dial-a-Cab, together with other trade organisations, were invited to take part in this year’s PCO Open Day on Sunday 12 June 2005. Indeed, a large number of those attending were DaC drivers.
This year the Head of the PCO, Roy Ellis, employed the services of an events company and the day itself was very good, marred only by the disappointingly small numbers attending on a pleasant summer’s day.
The usual suspects were there in addition to DaC: ComCab, LTFUC and War Disabled charities attended, as did many others. I was a little surprised that although there was an area allocated for Radio Taxis, they never turned up.
Our thanks go to all the team at the PCO for their hard work…
