As
Dial-a-Cab Chairman Brian Rice pulled the final ball out of
the bag and read out the name Terry, five heads dropped, but
a sixth – that of Terry Hamston (B24) – looked as though he
had won the lottery! It wasn’t quite the scale of a lottery
win, but Call Sign’s prize of a 42inch plasma television was
valued at around £1400 and wasn’t bad for a day’s work!
Call Sign’s competition ran over two issues (April and May)
when we asked readers to complete a crossword puzzle. We
then picked three winners from each of the two months and
put the six into a grand shoot-out final held in the
Brunswick House Boardroom. Each winner’s name was put onto
three balls and all 18 balls were put into a bag and mixed
up. The overall winner would be the first person whose name
was pulled out three times.
The three winners from the first puzzle were Dave Humphryes
(A69), Theresa Spears (DaC IT dept) and Terry
Hamston (B24) and they were joined by the second batch
of three – Steve Crisp (D52), Gary Heard (Y07) and
Ken Aisthorpe (T49).

either one or two balls except
Dave Humphryes who had none! Then Brian pulled another ball
out of the bag and read out the name Terry and we had a
winner!
Everyone agreed that the competition had been fun – especially when
Call Sign revealed that we were giving the five losers a
crisp £50 note as a consolation |
prize.
Meanwhile a delighted Terry phoned his wife and asked her to
guess what size television screen they’d be watching in the
future!
As for
Dave Humphryes who ended up with no balls: “It isn’t
often you can end up with no balls but still enjoy yourself!
Well done to Terry…” |
