Abridge Golf Club was the venue for our inaugural Charity
Golf Day. Considering the amount of wet weather we have had
this summer, the green keepers must have worked incredibly
hard to present the superb course that they did. All the
players complimented the course - especially the accuracy
                    and speed of the greens.

With horizontal rain and the M25 and surrounding roads
suffering with hold-ups, the day looked as if it was going
to be a complete disaster! Then by some miracle it stopped
raining, the sky brightened and the first groups teed off
only 10 minutes late. There were nine different competitions
for the 96 players to play for including Best Individual,
Best Team, Best Taxi Driver as well as the usual nearest the
pin and longest drives. Prizes on offer were a cut glass
decanter, glasses, taxi tyres, trophies and putters. The
outright winner of the day was Keith Andrews, who
plays off a 16 handicap. Keith has run many of his own
charity golf days in aid of the Variety Club, which DaC have
been regular supporters of and he has raised well over
£100,000. It would appear that being a charitable person
does have its rewards and I can’t wait for my day to come!
The runner-up was Keith Clark of KPM UK Taxis.

Our team prize also went to Keith Andrews’ team made
from up from his friends who just happen to be Dial-a-Cab’s
very first NatWest Bank branch manager, together with Board
                    member Allen Togwell.

The LTDA donated a lovely prize for the lowest combined
score of all four par three holes with the winner being Barry
Rowan (ComCab). The ‘best-placed taxi driver’, who
received four new Dunlop tyres, was Paul Ginsberg of
Xeta. Michael Mercer from Radio Taxis Group won the
                    putting competition.

DaC winners included Jim Cunningham (S88) who took
the ‘nearest pin’ prize and Dave Short (straightest
                    drive).

The Call Sign team were Chas Kissin (P99J), Dave
Burland (H01), Peter Boxall (B89) and John Brown
of Call Sign printing fame. Between them all they won was
                    one raffle prize!

The final amount raised on behalf of The London Taxi
Drivers’ Fund for Underprivileged Children was £2,500
and without the support of many of our suppliers, taxi trade
friends and competitors, it would not have been possible to
arrange what was finally a great day.

I would like to thank the following for their support of
                    the day;
