Every year approximately 3 million PCs are decommissioned.
Most are still in good working order and are only being discarded due to the
owners replacing them with newer models. But now there’s something we can do
with these PCs - donate them to
www.ComputerAid.org. Computer Aid is the world's largest
non-profit supplier of computers to developing countries. I do realise that
recently I've moaned about companies going offshore to save money and this
could effectively be the start of that whole process, but these guys should
be supported and complimented for their efforts. I've seen many large corporations throw their older PCs away rather than donate them, usually due to legal reasons. For instance, if the donated PCs were to malfunction and start a fire, then the company who donated the PC could be liable. Computer Aid removes liability from the corporation and accepts full liability themselves for the equipment as soon as they receive it. They accept any Pentium-II 233MHz (and equivalent) or above computers, any colour monitors and all related peripheral equipment - preferably in reasonably good working order. They also securely wipe any existing data from the PC and comply with EU directives relating to recycling and environment legislation. For more info, visit www.computeraid.org or |

donate your old PCs at 433 Holloway Road, N7. And no! That
isn’t M&O…! Is Your PC Bombarded with rubbish? |
Nuker, available at www.ada-ware.com/ . Both are very similar to an AntiVirus tool that scans your hard-drive searching for offending files and either automatically fixes/deletes/quarantines them or gives you the option. Either of the previously mentioned applications will help to clean your PC and I'd suggest installing one ASAP if you already haven't. Thanks George – But No Thanks! Vince Chin |
