PHIL COMPLETES GERMAN MARATHON |
Call Sign recently told how Phil
Gurvitz, son-in-law of DaC’s late former-Chairman, Martin Gellman,
decided to raise money for ‘Cancer Research Uk’ by running in
Germany’s Hamburg Marathon in memory of Martin, who was ODRTS
Chairman from 1972 until 1976. Martin died last December. Phil competed in the run even though he suffers from an incurable illness that causes nerve destroying neurological problems with his hands and feet. He told Call Sign at the time how different forms of cancer had affected family and friends alike and that had made him determined to complete. Phil achieved his aim and completed the 26 mile course in 4hrs 32.34. After the race, Phil told Call Sign: "First and foremost I'd just like to say thank you from all of us (Janine, myself, Danny, Sue and Passi) for writing the article in Call Sign, it was a great tribute to one of the worlds nicest, kindest gentlemen. "So far as the Marathon went, I was pleased with my time and everything went to plan. Even my doctor was pleasantly surprised at how well I was after the event! Can I also thank all at Call Sign, the DaC staff and drivers alike for their kind thoughts and sponsorships. Once all sponsorship money is in, I hope to have a total of around £3000." Anyone who wants to send money can still do so. Cheques payable to Cancer Research UK and send to: 31 Highfield, Watford, Hertfordshire, WD19 5DY DaC driver Barry Smith successfully
completed the London Marathon recently, also in aid of Cancer
Research UK. A report will be in the next issue…
