Dial-a-Cab driver, John Davis (F60J), has known the family of
10-year-old Jack Pitcher
for a long time. Jack is totally blind, epileptic, has the intelligence
level of a 2-3 year old, suffers from a neurological degenerative
disease that as yet has no name, is wheelchair bound and the only way he
can eat is via a gastrostomy tube inserted directly into his stomach.
Jack will never be cured and tragically, will die very young.
However, according to John, Jack is a happy child although he frustrates himself being incapable

much. Jack’s mother and father try their best to give Jack some quality
of life and his brother and sister also do all they can to help.
The Heart of Darts charity has agreed to buy Jack a specialised
motorised wheelchair that converts into a standing frame, to try to keep
some muscle strength in Jack’s legs.
The family through various charity events, are now trying to raise
£25,000 that would buy a specially converted van-sized vehicle big

Pitcher family.
John Davis has told Call Sign that he is determined to do something
to help Jack’s plight and has decided to attempt his first ever charity
skydive!
"I’m not too sure that I fancy it," said John, "but I so
want to help Jack enjoy what time he has left. He’s a real little
battler and deserves whatever help he can get."
John’s only experience is two parachute jumps but never a
skydive and he’s hoping that DaC drivers and staff will want to sponsor
his efforts. Call Sign will be following John’s efforts.
In the meantime, if anyone wants to donate any money, Call Sign
will be happy to pass on any cheques. Make them payable to The Jack
Pitcher Fund… |
