Currently my kids are all going through their exams and
always asking me difficult questions that I've not touched upon since I was
at school. Thanks to the Internet, most of their questions have been
answered. Ok, I know it's a bit late to suggest revision web sites, but June always tends to be the free month for Call Sign, so for future reference I'll list our four most favourite... The top web site is the BBC's BiteSize resource at HERE . It's an excellent site for all ages that includes all subjects and key stages, together with resources for teachers and parents. It’s a very comprehensive source. To help aid revising, the BBC has introduced novel methods such as games, interactive tests and activities. These proved very useful indeed and my kids were regularly on the BBC site. Lucky I've got ADSL! The next favourite was www.schoolhistory.co.uk/. This is another excellent resource, although specific to just one subject - history. It's a site that kids as well as adults will enjoy - I do! For that subject that you either love or hate – Maths – www.mathsnet.net/ is a must! I could go on and on about this site, but I'll try to keep it short and sweet. It's got everything to |

help maths revision such as articles, books, puzzles,
games and downloads for all maths subjects including Pythagoras theorem, geometry, algebra, fractions and graphs. Finally for the subject I enjoy most, ICT, a great site is at www.ictgcse.com. Why wasn't this subject around when I was at school! Once again this has the usual games, tips, exercises, downloads and guides. It is a great resource for those budding techies. Sometimes when I visit the BBC.co.uk web site, I'm just amazed at the quality of information available and it's professional presentation. I really do like the BBC site and it is one instance where I can see value for money for our TV licence fee. The other day I came across an article that praised London Taxi drivers, so I thought I'd share it with you. It seems, judging by the article, that cabbies are |
synonymous with Cockneys and HERE is the place to view the article. While you’re there have a good look around the BBC's London web site located at HERE. Well worth a visit! Finally, have you ever wondered how many people in the UK have the same name as you? Well there's a site that will tell you using data from the 2001 electoral role. It's located at http://www.yournotme.com. I entered Vincent Chin and was amazed to find 5, but when I entered Alan Fisher a whopping 438 matches were found. Never mind Alan, apparently I'm as rare as a wombat’s wingnut and you're as common as muck... Ed’s note: Now you know why I don’t pay you! Be Lucky and see you next month |
THE CALL CENTRE ISN’T BENT… | |

It’s
the Call Takers Who Are!
In the old days of ‘voice’ there were always rumours about
"bent" dispatchers. Drivers who for whatever reason couldn’t
get in to give their position for a job, usually put them about. The
allegations were nearly always untrue – at least on ODRTS. "I don’t know why I do it," she told Call Sign, "I guess it’s now more of a party trick." The photo accompanying this article was the only one we could bear to look at long enough to publish, the other two making the lovely Angela look like an Alien spider! |
