It’s
almost here – The Dial-a-Cab European Open Skeet Shooting
Championships will be taking place later this month (July 25) at
the Lakenheath Rod and Gun Country Club in Suffolk. The only question
so far as Call Sign is concerned, is can DaC’s call-taking blonde
bombshell Donna Merry come back to winning ways after months of
inactivity with her Mirkou MK30 shotgun, having decided to put her
university IT studies as her main priority. She hasn’t picked up her
rifle since the end of the last skeet-shooting season.
"I’m totally out of
practise," said Donna, "but I also know that this may
be my last chance at a major title because I just can’t see myself
ever attaining the heights again that I did when winning my 2001 World
Championship medal in Texas."
Donna has won numerous
championships throughout her shooting career in addition to captaining
the England Ladies team and was probably as

instrumental as anyone is
pushing
the ladies
claim to shooting equality. Now it seems that Donna
has decided that her shooting days are numbered - at least at this
level - and she desperately wants to go out with a final flourish.
That means taking the DaC European Championships…
"All the top players
will be going hell for leather in this event, but I’m going to give
it everything," Donna told us, "I really want that
title…"
DaC driver John Wells (K68)
will also be going for gold. He told Call Sign:
"Donna has done a lot
for ladies shooting and I really believe that at one point she was
probably the world’s top female shooter. But if this is the end of
her top class shooting career, then there is no point in her looking
to me for sympathy.
I will also be going
all out to take the European. This DaC Classic is second only to the

themselves in the
skeet shooting calendar and believe
me, I want it every bit as much as Donna and if I have to
beat her in the final male v female shoot-off, then I will!"
Any DaC drivers
who’d like to come along with their families to cheer on Donna and
John Wells are welcome. The club is close to the US airbase at
Lakenheath. Admission is free as is the ample car parking… |
