In September last year, two members of the Dutch London Taxi Club (DLTC)
visited Dial-a-Cab and were given a personal tour by DaC Chairman
Brian Rice. One of those two visitors, Hans Dooren, has now
contacted Call Sign to say that he and several others from the club
have left and set up their own club as the Dutch section of the
worldwide London Vintage Taxi Association (LVTA). At the time
of their visit, Hans told Call Sign:
"We were amazed at the sheer size of the operation at DaC and of
the advanced technology used. As we have close ties with both the
London and American Vintage Taxi Associations and the
LVTA Chairman Keith White is on DaC, we had a clue about DaC, but
this is very impressive..." Hans now tells Call

from London, we called a meeting and decided that our club would
have far more chance of success as part of a
worldwide group rather than as an insular body operating on its
own. So we have now left the DLTC and formed the Dutch section of
the LVTA."
The idea met with the general support of the London and
American sections of the LVTA and both groups cooperated in the
realisation of the Dutch plans. A committee of three consisting of
Hans Dooren, Karel Brandes and Addie Fioole are currently in
charge. |
The LVTA also have
sections in France, South Africa and several other countries besides
the UK and USA and the worldwide LVTA Chairman Keith White (A16)
told Call Sign that he was delighted to welcome the Dutch section
into their organisation. He explained that the idea of the LVTA was
to maintain mutual contacts between participants who owned old cabs
by organising events and meetings, to encourage the exchange of
acquired knowledge and experience and of course to help maintain
their old taxis.
The oldest cab currently owned by a London LVTA member is a 1907
Unic. Keith White owns the prototype Metrocab of 1969
which he has restored to as new and a 1957 Beardmore. Another
DaC driver and LVTA member David Joseph (A82), has his fully
restored FX3D on the road. Mind you,
Dave, who can be seen on EC5 most nights, also has his own bus - so
what’s new!
Good luck Hans and co… |
