Dial-a-Cab Marshal Gerry Dunn and his family faced the most appalling tragedy recently when the new baby of son Stephen and daughter-in-law Tracey, Jack Harry Louis, died on March 14 having lived for just 26 short days.
Jack was born 9 weeks prematurely; something that modern technology now has a fighting chance against. What it couldn’t fight in one so young was to dispel the blood clot in baby Jack’s brain – the new blood vessels being far too small and undeveloped to cope. Jack died with his family around him.
"We were amazed at the number of people at the

funeral," Gerry told Call Sign,
"we estimate it at around 300.  A parade of Taxis also pulled into the cemetery grounds. However sad the moment, I felt a tinge of pride when I saw that…"
Following a wet, cold spell, Jack’s funeral service took place in bright, warm sunshine outside of the main hall, giving all 300 present the chance to hear Rabbi Cohen’s heart wrenching message. It would be nice to think that the weather was laid on especially for Jack…
To Stephen, Tracey and their 2½  daughter Olivia, all at Dial-a-Cab  send their sincere

condolences, as we do to Gerry, wife Janet and all the Dunn family including Call Sign’s occasional solicitor columnist, Gerry’s daughter Lisa.
To all the Dunn family, we wish you a long life…

LTI GIVES CAUTIOUS WELCOME TO
GOVERNMENT ACTION PLAN ON TAXI TRADE

LTI Vehicles has given a cautious welcome to Government plans to make local authorities justify restrictions on the number of taxi licences they issue. The TXII manufacturer believes that the Government’s action plan – a response to the OFT report into the UK taxi market - is unlikely to include primary legislation to compel any local authorities that restrict hackney carriage numbers to remove the restriction, but that the Government seems content that local authorities already have the power under the 1985 Transport Act to de-limit as required.
However, the plan also directs that any local decisions to restrict or delimit taxi numbers be made with consumer interests very much in mind. LTI’s MD Peter Shillcock told Call Sign:
"It is quite right that taxi provision in each area is regularly and carefully reviewed to ensure it is adequate, particularly in relation to disabled users, and we are pleased that the Government is planning to produce best practice guidance for licensing authorities on quality and safety standards for vehicles to be used as taxis."
Mr Shillcock ended by saying: "We strongly believe the adoption of a policy of "managed growth" as proposed by the T&GWU is the best way forward for local authorities. We believe quality of service goes hand in hand with the income drivers are able to earn and managed growth enables both the quantity and quality to be controlled for the benefit of all."
