STEVE NORRIS SELECTED AS PROSPECTIVE MAYORAL
CONSERVATIVE CANDIDATE
Steve Norris in his previous existence as Transport
Minister for London
Steve Norris, the former MP and Transport
Minister, has been selected as the prospective Conservative candidate for
Mayor of London, gaining 77% of the postal vote of London Conservatives.
In his acceptance speech, Mr Norris said: "It is a
great honour to be the Conservative candidate and to take on Ken. London
deserves better than Livingstone. He has let Londoners down. He has brought
London to a standstill and his congestion tax will make the problem worse
not better. It is flawed, unfair and unjust."
The turnout was 49% of Party members in London - higher than
the previous Mayoral selection ballot. Mr Norris made his debut campaign
appearance alongside Conservative leader Iain Duncan Smith at Smithfield
Market two weeks ago on "Congestion Charge Monday" as part of the
Conservative campaign against Ken Livingstone's new congestion tax. Should
Mr Norris be elected Mayor of London, he has pledged to scrap the congestion
charge...
He concluded his speech by adding: "I have the
experience to get London moving again, but my top priority as Mayor of
London will be to make the capital a safer place to live and work. I will be
a Mayor for the whole of London and campaign to improve the quality of life
for everyone in all London's 33 Boroughs, rich or poor, black or
white."

DAC DRIVERS DON'T RETIRE
THEY GO TO SPAIN!
Eddie soaks up the from his Jacuzzi
Following an article in the December Call Sign in which
former Dial-a-Cab driver Sam Stuart paid us a visit from his Spanish home in
Torrevieja, near Alicante, we have heard from another driver who has also
become an ex-pat in sunny Espagne!
Eddie Greenbury (ex D85) decided to retire to Spain as soon as
he could sell his house and amazingly, it went as soon as he put it on the
market! He then rented an apartment in Los Alcazares, which is close to La
Manga and situated on a famous large lagoon which Eddie explained to Call
Sign, contained a high mineral content mud which the locals believe is a
cure for arthritis and osteoarthritis.
"Every day they file down to the lagoon and immerse
their bodies in the mud," said Eddie.
He has now bought his own villa in Cuidad Quesada, which is
just outside Torrevieja. Amazingly, Eddie and his wife now look out at two
large salt lakes that, according to the locals, is good for joints if bathed
in regularly!
Looking out of the back of the Villa, they get a breathtaking
view of the mountains and coastline of south-east Spain, but if they ever
get bored with that, the happy couple can relax in their Jacuzzi or sunbathe
in the solarium.
"Yes," said Eddie, "it is tough, but a
man's gotta do what a man's gotta do! The life here is idyllic and we love
it." Eddie added that if any DaC drivers want to enquire about
moving to Spain, a friend of his is selling property there and has already
arranged mortgages for several cab drivers.
Call Mrs Jean Torre on 0034 965 725 819.
Eddie also asked that any DaC drivers who live nearby, please
contact him via Call Sign.
