And Just What Dial-a-Cab Can Expect From The Area...
Canary Wharf business development has attracted a tremendous amount of
employment within London's Docklands. During the past 15 years, the Docklands
have been transformed from a derelict wharf into one of the premier business
districts in Europe. You only have to look at the skyline to appreciate that.
In 1991 when the first companies - State Street (banking) and
Morgan Stanley moved to Canary Wharf, it was often difficult to get them a
taxi. This was due to the resistance of drivers to venture
into 'parts unknown'.
Taxis have always been an integral part of the needs of the
business sector. Addressing the situation in Docklands, the Dial-a-Cab
management of the day had to be pro-active due to the lack of transport
infrastructure servicing the area. Liasing with the London Docklands
Development Corporation, together with other
|
representatives from the taxi trade, it was imperative that well sited ranks
were implemented and up to date information from LDDC was given to all. Now,
as we are all aware, numerous companies have moved to Canary Wharf and it is
gratifying to know that Dial-a-Cab services many of these businesses.
However, the story does not end here; you will notice various
new buildings under construction. Ongoing redevelopment of the Docklands is
still taking place including The London Arena and the ASDA Shopping complex
to name just two. Other existing residential areas together with business
and leisure centres are being developed together with major projects such as
the
|
regeneration of areas like the Millennium Quarter and the British
Waterways Wood Wharf project; together these projects will develop into a
thriving major city in their own right. Relocation seems to be the byword and
with this in mind, over the next few years in excess of 200,000 personnel will
be relocating to these areas with their companies.
You may ask why I am mentioning this now? It is important that we
maintain and increase our presence in the Docklands, therefore when taking
passengers to the east of London town, ask if they have a taxi service? If the
answer is no or if they say yes but not a very good one, then get their details
and pass them onto myself or Sales Manager Lydia Foulkes.
We cannot and must not sit back and wait for things to happen. Dial-a-Cab has
always been pro-active, so please do not forget: As a driver you are in the
front line, help us to help you. Keep us informed of anything you think
may be relevant...
