Thursday August 1st brought the very sad news to Dial-a-Cab and Call Sign that this Society's founder-Chairman, Bonnie Martyn, had passed away following a stroke three days earlier at his north London home.
Bonnie's wife Carol told Call Sign how he had eaten lunch and gone to have a doze in an armchair before the couple intended going to visit some local shops. When she went to wake him up, he wouldn't respond. At first she thought he was joking - those knowing Bonnie would know that he was still very young at heart and more than capable of joking about - but soon realised that something was wrong.
At the hospital they told Carol that Bonnie had suffered a serious stroke paralysing his right side, making the chances of survival slim due to his age.
The following day, he partially opened one eye to see Carol sitting at his bedside. He squeezed her

BONNIE MARTYN DIES AT 93

hand but sadly that was the last contact the devoted couple had. Bonnie Martyn, the Founder of Dial-a-Cab, passed away without ever regaining consciousness.
The funeral was held at Edgwarebury Lane barely 36 hours later, yet so many attended that not all of them could get into the prayer hall with some having to stand outside.

Dial-a-Cab would like to send our sympathies to the family together with our grateful thanks for allowing us to share Bonnie with you.
We would also like to publish these words from Bonnie's devoted wife Carol...

There are no words to describe my utter devastation at the loss of my beloved, Bonnie.
He cared for and cherished me and I thank him from the bottom of my heart for 19 happy and wonderful years.
My love, my life, my everything, whom I loved more than anything in the whole wide world.
Words can never express our relationship together. He was my best friend. I am so sad, but so very proud of him...

CLEARING BOROUGH TAXICARDS

It seems that some drivers are still having problems clearing Borough TaxiCards other than Westminster trips. Those drivers usually say the same thing - the system won't allow them to clear the trip. The usual reason is that Borough TaxiCards (other than Westminster) have to be cleared twice; the first time with the total amount and the second with the amount you are claiming after the passenger has paid their share. The TaxiCard is swiped in the same way when the passenger boards the taxi together with pressing the "On Board" button and then "Soon to Clear if required." Once the trip ends, you stop the meter, press "GenCode" to bring up the codes page, then press "GenCode" again and type in 90. In the space marked "Optional data" enter the total amount of the trip before the passenger's contribution is taken off, but do so using five digits. So if the total fare comes to £10.80, insert that as 01080 and "Send." A brief message will appear saying that the amount has been accepted. You then will be able to clear the job in the normal way and return to the system. Don't forget that TaxiCard trips other than Westminster also have an extra line of information at the bottom of the trip sheet giving you run-in and subsidy info. Some Boroughs also have an additional amount after 8pm making the subsidy higher for that period. This info will also be on the trip details...
