Dial-a-Cab Credit Union

Welcome Helen
The Board and members are pleased to welcome Helen Corkerry on board the Dial-a-Cab Credit Union and she has now been installed as Office Manager, which means she has had to step down as Treasurer and agree to become Secretary. I have now taken over as Treasurer.
When Helen left Dial-a-Cab after 17 years, we were more than happy to give her a job, in fact we thanked our lucky stars for three good reasons:
  1. For her experience with all you drivers out there, I think she knows most of you on first name terms
  2. For her knowledge of how Dial-a-Cab works concerning how your money is processed

  1. As treasurer of the Credit Union for the last three years or so, she knows the ins and outs of the Credit Union system, so all in all this is a very satisfactory appointment for us. Once again, a very warm welcome to Helen and all the very best in your new job.

I am still only getting 2 or 3 new members a month. I know I keep banging on about joining the Credit Union but it is just a

minimum of £5 per week and surely few would miss this amount? Then, say in 9 months time, you phone up to ask how your account is doing and you find you have £200 sitting there. Most people are so surprised that they then ask to increase their savings.
It is so easy to join, just give us a call on 020 7490 5206 and we will send you a form. You then can have the added bonus of being able to speak to Helen! Or better still, call directly into the office and speak to her personally.
Before I sign off, I must apologise for the telephone number printed in last month's Call Sign - it was wrong and I have had my ear chewed off by the President!
Anyhow, that's all for now, be lucky, but above all - be careful out there...

JAMIE BORWICK BUYS PHIL WARREN'S UNIQUE
COLLECTION OF LONDON TAXI MEMORABILIA
Jamie Borwick, Chairman of LTI's Parent Company Manganese Bronze Holdings Ltd, has bought Phil Warren's unique collection of historical material relating to the London taxi trade.
Jamie has personally purchased the collection to ensure that it is not broken up and lost when Phil retires to Australia later this year.
Phil Warren's collection represents a lifetime's work and contains rare documents, photographs and artefacts from the trade dating back to its very beginnings in the 1600s, from the time of Oliver Cromwell to the present day. The highlights of the collection include the document listing all the original drivers licensed by Oliver Cromwell in 1654, one the original metal fare tables, taxi meters from throughout the years and many photographs of horse drawn and hansom cabs.
Speaking to Call Sign, Jamie Borwick told us:
"I am delighted to have purchased Phil Warren's important and wide-ranging

collection of London taxi artefacts. As the new owner, I am keen that the collection continues to be enjoyed by those who wish to see it and I'm particularly keen that the PCO continues to display those parts of the collection it deems important for the rest of the trade to see. Other parts of the collection may, in time, be displayed at London's Transport Museum and the Museum of British Road Transport."
Taking up the conversation, Phil Warren added:

"I am so pleased that the collection is going to a good home and to an owner who cares about the trade. Indeed, over the years, he and his company have invested huge amounts of money into our famous trade that is the envy of New York and Berlin. I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank Jamie for this final act of generosity. It means I can retire to Australia with peace of mind knowing that it is in good hands and will be accessible to TfL, the PCO and not least, drivers. Hopefully people who see the collection will be able to appreciate where the trade has come from and perhaps glean some clues as to where it is going. I'm sure that all the trade is grateful to Jamie for this."
Phil ended with these few pertinent words:
"I'd like to say to the trade 'be lucky' as I prepare to retire to Australia..."
