Taxi Driver of the Year and Trade Show
As you may be aware, the show took place on 1st September 2002. Although the
venue was great, visitor attendance was a bit sparse, however those that did
attend were quite impressed with the new venue. Speaking with some of the
visitors and exhibitors, many compliments were paid to those that organised the
event, nevertheless, considering there was a great deal of promotional activity
prior to the show; there was disappointment with the lack of attendance both
from visitors and exhibitors.
Dial-a-Cab were there as usual flying the flag, this time with
something new - we employed the services of therapy specialists. They were
talking to visitors about the different ways to overcome stress while driving
in London and gave practical massage demonstrations. The team were so busy that
appointments had to be scheduled during the day. Even the Deputy Mayor of
Hammersmith had a massage! Afterwards, he said he felt very refreshed and
thought it was such a novel idea to have the team of therapists, but also
extremely practical. The Dial-a-Cab stand was again the hit of the trade show.
My thanks to Brian

Rice and Allan Evans for their support and a special thanks to all the
team from Element On-Site Therapy Specialists, who worked so hard on
behalf of Dial-a-Cab. Incidentally you will find some leaflets at
reception with helpful points to relieve stress and back pain.
Trafalgar Square
I must admit when I heard about the changes at Trafalgar
Square, my first thought was "Ken what are you doing to London."
When I encountered my first journey via Trafalgar Square, I thought it was
going to be one hell of a ride. I warned my passenger that the trip could
take extra time due to road changes around the square To my utter
amazement and even in the rush hour, we had no hold-ups and the traffic
moved quickly. There was one little problem, as some may already know;
there is a bus lane that accesses into the Strand that I though it was
used for both buses and taxis.
|
WRONG. I entered the bus lane and was stopped by the police. They
kindly allowed me to reverse, held up the traffic for me to back up,
causing a traffic jam. Tremendous policing, why oh why is life being made
so difficult. Can somebody tell me what the big deal is to let taxis use
the Strand/Trafalgar Square bus lane?
(I hope you took your logos off while reversing.
Embarrassing or what! ...Ed)
Driving Licence Disqualification
I had occasion to speak with a driver who was recently
disqualified from driving for 2 years on a drink-drive related issue. The
reason I mention this is because what happened to this driver could happen
to anyone of us. Some cab drivers may like a drink in the pub at lunchtime
or take a social drink when driving their cab or car. Don't! Even if you
have just one pint of beer or two glasses of wine, dependent on your
metabolism and / or your weight, you could be over the limit. Do not drink
and drive - your licence is valuable both to you, your family and your
future. DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE...
