KUPKAKE'S KORNER

David's Desire...
I want to crunch a bicycle,
Not the rider, just the bike,
I want to mash those ten-speed frames,
That are ridden without lights...!

I want to trap some pirates,
As they blatantly tout their trade...
And confiscate their bangers -
Wherever they were made.

I want to squash the speed bumps,
In places hardly used,
That slow me down when working...
And get my suspension all confused.

I want penalty-free parking,
When I need to find a loo,
And there is a warden lurking,
Nearby... but not in view!

I want to drive a vehicle,
That is 21st century,
One that supports my poor old back...
And which runs economically.

I want to earn my daily,
Without fear of heart attack,
Caused by traffic congestion,
I want my own life back...

IN OCTOBER

BRIAN RICE PLUGS DAC ON ANOTHER 15 RADIO STATIONS!
Following the story in the September issue of Call Sign on how the DaC Chairman was heard on 15 radio stations covering the south of England discussing the results of a motoring survey, Brian Rice was again contacted twice in October, this time by IRN and ITV. The Independent Radio News unit asked Brian to give his views on the underground strikes. Soon after, the Mayor's office came up with an "agreement." Was that connected to Brian's words? We couldn't possible comment!
However, Brian's dulcet tones were heard all over the south with, of course, several mentions of the name Dial-a-Cab. Not slow to give us some free publicity is our Chairman!
He followed that up with appearances on London Today when asked by the ITV subsidiary for his views on the redundancies that have been hitting the big City corporates and did they affect us? TV companies are famous for asking silly questions at times! Hands up those who would like to ask the head of ITV, if the network would be affected if no one advertised with them!

...WHILE HOWARD PEARS EXTOLS THE USE OF E-BILLING
Also in October, the Bank of Scotland's in-house magazine PT & BS Bulletin was discussing the subject of e-billing and the subject of Dial-a-Cab came up together with a short interview with DaC Finance Manager, Howard Pears. Call Sign thought you'd like to read it...

DIAL-A-CAB
Announcing yet another first in the taxi industry, NatWest customer Dial-a-Cab - the UK's largest taxi co-operative, is offering clients the option of receiving invoices electronically. The Company was particularly impressed by Microgen's outsourced e-billing service that enabled it to achieve innovation without tying up its own resources.
Howard Pears of Dial-a-Cab, ascribes the Company's success to its willingness to embrace change:
"Since setting the pace in 1989 by pioneering the first fully computerised communications system to be used in a licensed taxi, we are always looking for ways to further enhance customer service. For example, the recently launched e-billing service is designed to assist our clients in the essential internal cost allocations, while reducing levels of tiresome paper handling."
One of the first customers to receive e-invoices from Dial-a-Cab was Deutsche Bank.

ORIGINAL TAXI LICENCE PLATES FOR SALE
The London Transport Museum in Covent Garden has informed Call Sign that for the first time ever, you can now purchase genuine original London Taxi Licence plates from the museum's shop. The plates - some over 30 years old - cost just £10 each.
Dial-a-Cab drivers will remember the old style vitreous enamel plates that were fitted on the rear of the cab with a smaller version affixed to the bulkhead (not all the smaller ones are still available). You can also buy a plate together with a model taxi for £19.99. The new ones we now use are made of plastic.
Model Taxi and plate can be bought for £199.99 or £10 without the taxi Model Taxi and plate can be bought for £199.99 or £10 without the taxi

London's Transport Museum is grateful to the Public Carriage Office (a division of TfL) for permission to sell these unusual items.
