As usual, there were many Dial-a-Cab drivers volunteering their services on the Company of Hackney Carriage Drivers 9th year of taking sick children on an amazing weekend trip to the amazing Disneyland Resort, Paris.
Almost 100 taxis made the trip, carrying children, parents, doctors and nurses. They had all arrived at Canary Wharf at 7am on a dry October Friday morning where they were joined by police, ambulance and AA support personnel.
Before leaving for Dover, it was into Cabot Hall for breakfast to the sound of the London Ambulance Pipe Band. The smiling kids were also given pocket money and goody bags full of gifts. The Lord Mayor, the Rt. Hon Michael Oliver was on hand to meet and talk to everyone as were Tommy Walsh, Jamie Borwick, Andrew Overton and other well known celebrities from within the cab trade.
The convoy then left under Metropolitan Police escort to Dover and boarded the ferry. Our good friends at P&O Stena Line donated the crossing. The long convoy disembarked at Calais and with the Met Police and Gendarmerie escorting us, we soon made our way towards Disney, now known as the Disneyland Resort Paris via a quick fuel stop and snacks from "white van man" Terry Bezant (W87).
We then were joined by the C.R.S. who escorted us to the Cheyenne Hotel, where most of us had an early night in preparation for Saturday.
We all woke early, had breakfast and went straight into the Park. My young guests took me straight to Space Mountain! This was followed by numerous other rides and a day of absolutely incredible fun. When a sick child smiles, you know they are happy...
At 7.30 it was into the Plaza Garden Restaurant for our private party, where the children got to meet all their favourite Disney characters and enjoy a great meal followed by presentations to the support teams.
After breakfast on Sunday morning, it was back to Calais via another a quick fuel and snack stop and back onto the ferry where burgers and chips were laid on.
Everyone agreed that it was yet another hugely successful trip and on behalf of the Company of Hackney Carriage Drivers, Call Sign would like to thank everyone - too numerous to mention individually - who helped make the trip a success. Here's to next year's Magical Taxi Tour, which will be the trips 10th anniversary...
