The new London Taxis International TXII taxi with its Ford DuraTorq
engine, has received a glowing review from one of the country's leading
independent motoring broadcast media - the BBC's popular Top Gear GTI
programme. Also on the programme was Dial-a-Cab driver Tony Arnold (F03). Presenter Vicki Butler-Henderson, along with Tony Arnold, gave the TXII a thorough examination around city streets, giving particular praise to its 'legendary' turning circle, wheelchair access and child seat. Vicki described her experience of the TXII, powered by the 2.4 litre turbocharged diesel engine, as an "absolute treat...!" Vicki's driver, Tony Arnold who has been with DaC for many years, was also fulsome in his praise of the TXII - in particular the additional space for the driver, it's 'on the road' abilities and greatly improved fuel efficiency... Comparing it to its predecessor, the TX1, Tony commented: "There is far more pulling power |

in this vehicle, it really is a huge improvement and it's also very fuel-efficient. In fact," said Tony who keeps fuel figures, "my new TXII is achieving a fuel saving of around 20% or about £1000 in a year!" Tony went on to add: "In my view, the TXII represents LTI's best taxi yet. It is also such a recognisable shape throughout the world - everybody knows that it is a black taxi and that this is the safest bet." "That was Greavsie and now the TXII...!" Director of public affairs at LTI, Chris King told Call Sign: "We are delighted to receive such a strong endorsement of our latest vehicle from Top Gear, whose opinion is always respected as honest and unbiased. The comments from the programme confirm our belief that the TXII is the most drivable taxi we have ever produced." While Tony was doing his TV |
bit, Ian Pickering, Chief Executive of Manganese Bronze Holdings (LTI parent company), was handing over the keys of two new TXII's to the first owners of the vehicles in Milton Keynes, David Hall and Ken Pinnock. After explaining about the lower emissions from the new cab, Mr Pickering went on to explain about the latest developments on the swivel seat in the rear compartment, which meant that in addition to wheelchair access, the TXII would help the widest range of passengers with mobility impairment. New Milton Keynes TXII owner David Hall told Call Sign: "As soon as 1 drove the new TXII, I knew that this was the vehicle for me. This is a proper purpose built taxi and I was really impressed with its safety and found it incredibly easy to drive. I am also delighted that it will benefit all types of passengers with its many access features. I'm very hopeful that it will prove to be a sound investment." |
