Last month's Call Sign told readers of the upcoming 25th anniversary of Ann
Hughes working for Dial-a-Cab. What Ann didn't know was that Brian Rice's
secretary, Jacqui Chart, would be organising a special luncheon to celebrate
the occasion on Monday July 22 - 25 years to the day that a young lady first
went to the ODRTS office in Shirland Road to answer the phones in the basement
control room.
Present were Board and Staff members who all enjoyed a good natter
about those old days. In addition to the excellent fare laid on, Chairman Brian
Rice presented a delighted Ann with a beautiful bouquet and a cheque to
commemorate the occasion.
Ann told Call Sign:
"In the beginning, I didn't expect to stay for more than 25 days, but
it must have grown on me because I love it here now! I have always got on with
Board members and past Chairmen,

but I must say
that this current Board are the best, as is Brian Rice as Chairman."
Ann's friend and work colleague Lorraine Carruthers, who joined DaC in the
early 70's but left in 1985 before returning in 2000, told Call Sign:
"I can't believe that I've known Ann for 25 years. She is such a lovely
lady and a real joy to work alongside. You won't find anyone who doesn't like
her and she deserves everything that she has had bestowed on her today."
Several of the Call Centre ladies made a throne for Ann to sit on to celebrate
her Silver Jubilee.
"Wonderful," said Ann, "just absolutely wonderful. I
just don't want today to end..."
Call Sign was happy to present Ann with a souvenir album of the day...
