marshalling / training report

The well-publicised tariff change is due to be implemented early this month and we must hope that the proposed increase will benefit us all and not deter new and existing customers from using our services. It comes at a time that coincides with the monstrous events in New York of September 11th; added to the slowdown in the USA economy, which is already filtering through. Perhaps a time to reflect and take stock of the situation may well have been a slightly better option at this moment.
Work figures are holding up well and so long as we continue the excellent service levels that we are currently providing, we will always be held in high regard by all of our clients for the future. The BoM are always looking for ways to generate extra work for the Society and we at Dial-a-Cab are still the radio circuit that most Licensed taxi drivers look to as the leaders in our particular field - our waiting list is testament to this fact.
As most of you will already know, when we ceased to service the Westminster Special Needs account, a small minority of subscribers chose to leave our

Allan Evans

Society for pastures new. They followed this account over to the new supplier and now a month or so after this account officially started, a number of these ex-members now wish to return to Dial-a-Cab. Unfortunately, a decision was made by the BoM that drivers who left to follow this one account would not be accepted back so readily if things did not work out as well as they  had obviously hoped. In fact it is quite gratifying to know that the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence! (See Mailshot letter ...Ed).

Peterborough Court
The Goldman Sachs account is increasing steadily and we are now covering upwards of 150 trips per night. We are always looking at ways to speed up and simplify the procedures at Shoe Lane and now when you are offered a trip through the system on the G1111 account, the

destination will show EC4, although the passenger that you pick up could be travelling to any London postal zone or beyond. We have implemented this to help cut out the need for a Code 7 and accelerate the process which will then give our Marshal's the facility to increase the Society's percentage of total trips each night.
I am presently writing to most of our large corporate clients to offer them our Taxi Marshalling service throughout the Christmas period, which I hope will generate extra work for all of us. Our whole marshalling team are now very experienced and do a great job, but we rely totally on all of you to support these types of events just as you have always done in the past, and I'm sure you will do in the future.
Can I remind you that because of the present economic climate, many of our regular clients are monitoring run-ins and meter fares, so please do not jeopardise any of these accounts.
Finally, If you have any problems relating to the new terminal, please remember that a driver trainer is on site at the fitting bay at Roman Way every Wednesday from 2pm until 5pm.

The Life & Times of a DaC Driver's Wife

11 September 2001
Well, what a month September has been. I don't normally get too serious when writing this column, but I feel that the events in America on September 11th will allow me to waver for a moment and to just say how much it saddened me - as I am sure it did us all. The terrible loss of life suffered as a result of terrorist acts; my heart and prayers go out to all those affected by the events...
September has been quite an awful month for me, although it is important to keep things in

perspective with the American tragedies engraved deep into our memories. My hubby Terry's beloved grandmother, a true East End sweetie, has been diagnosed with stomach cancer. Heartbreaking enough, you'd think, however, when Terry went to visit her at his mum's house on his way to work recently (she lives with his mum), he had just gone into the house and sat down when someone drove up to his taxi, smashed the window and grabbed his cash dispenser and float from under the seat. So, due to losing that evening's work in addition to his cash dispenser and then paying for the window (despite paying almost £1000 a year for insurance, the excess makes it hardly worth claiming) we lost a tidy sum and now every time my DaCman hubby visits his Nan at her home,
he also has to keep one eye on his cab...
Anyway being the kind, caring and forgiving type of person you
have all come to know, all I can say on the matter is that I hope the low-life scumbag that did this, rots in hell. Mmmm! I feel so much better now...

Knight of the Road
To add to the already heavy burden building up for my mother-in-law Stella with her mum being ill and now son Terry's taxi being broke into; she recently broke down while driving her car. However, who should come to her rescue but a licensed taxi driver! Although we do not have a clue who he is, or even if reads this column, she'd still like to thank that taxi driver who helped a distressed lady in her broken-down car in Lodge Avenue Dagenham recently. Well done and where the bloody hell were you when my jeep stalled and flooded last month eh! Taxi drivers huh! Only kidding folks...
And leaving you on that lighter note, I bid you goodbye for this month...
