Purely by coincidence, the
following press release has come in from LTI. Bearing in mind that several reports are
contained within this issue regarding attacks on drivers, Call Sign feels that this

Damian Lynch in negotiations with national insurance companies for them to provide reduced premiums for any driver who has a taxi fitted with TX Eye." Designed as a compact and unobtrusive in-vehicle system, TX Eye was recently given the seal of approval by Liverpool licensing authority for use within taxis operating in its district and there are a number of other local authorities who are looking to follow suit. According to Taxifix, the system is conveniently mounted above the driver's head, giving a clear picture of both the passenger and driver compartments and is easy to install. Passengers are given a clear warning that the CCTV is in operation. To protect their privacy, the images are relayed off-site and securely held by an authorised distributor for up to 31 days. |
The recordings, which
can be either downloaded onto Smart Card, or put directly on videotapes, can only be
accessed in the case of an alleged assault or false injury claim. Call Sign would like to know more... |

strongly and respectfully suggest that you do
your homework on these devices and ask your trade organisations to organise a meeting with
the Public Carriage Office. The USA and Canada has many cameras already in place and have experienced fantastic successful results. The U.S Department of Labour Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has also publicly supported their use on their 'List of Safety Measures'. We here at the Safety Council sincerely hope that the industry worldwide will do whatever it takes to make taxi driving a much safer occupation...period. In the meantime - be careful out there...
