everyone at Dial-a-Cab to Evening Shift Chief Supervisor Joe
Brazil and partner Shelley on the birth of their 7 pound 6 ounce

also provides a baby brother for two-year-old Ryan who
astonishingly, was born on the same date in 1999...!
A delighted Joe - who also drives a cab on DaC as
King 16 - told Call Sign that the birth followed a very quick
period of labour and that Shannon was "gorgeous."
Young Ryan was also |
A happy Shelley and Baby Shannon
delighted by the arrival of a new baby sister and
exclusively told Call Sign: "Now perhaps they'll stop
referring to me as the baby...!"

BOOK REVIEW:
ROUGH JUSTICE
With so many "Gold" digital TV stations to choose from, it's
difficult not to see a re-run somewhere of The Sweeney or similar programmes
where the cops are shown to be only just better than the criminals they are
chasing! Pure fiction..... isn't it?
Well no! So for those of you who think that Regan and
Carter were just figments of someone's virile imagination, along comes
Ex-Detective Sergeant Dick Kirby, who's real-life adventures of his days in
the Flying and Serious Crime Squads show that The Sweeny were only playing
at being cops!
In Rough Justice (Merlin Unwin Books - £7.99), Dick
Kirby gives his frank account of the only way he claims criminals
understand - and believe me; it doesn't involve any political correctness!
His scathing remarks about some of his fellow officers make you realise how
much contempt he had for the criminals! He writes about meetings with
informers in the most insalubrious water holes, corruption in the highest
offices, his violent battles with underworld thugs and how he had meetings
with hardened criminals in their own backyards.
The language and action are both rough - not forgetting that
this is real-life and not some made up piece of fiction and that Dick Kirby
was either involved with, or knew about many of the notorious cases of the
70's and 80's remembering them all vividly. The book is made up of
individual cases and makes easy, exciting reading.
With so many taxi drivers having been with the Met Police
before driving a cab, there is definitely a link - not forgetting their
"special" relationship with us - "where's yer badge,
son?"
The book comes highly recommended with all royalties kindly
being donated to The Police Pensioners Housing Association and The Met
Police Combined Benevolence Trust.
A great read and definitely recommended ... especially if you
liked The Sweeny!

Views on life as seen through the eyes of David Kupler at...
KUPKAKE'S KORNER
Christmas? Don't Bother, Thanks...
There's no need for lights this Christmas,
To brighten shopping streets,
Our hire signs provide illumination,
As we our business seek...
Early kipper and recession
Instead of booming rush,
An oncoming depression,
And drastic corporate cuts...?
Oh, there'll be the office parties,
Not as many as the past,
But they're over before they've started,
Never meant to last...
And the New Years' hopes and wishes,
As we rank around the blocks,
Thick as shoaling fishes,
Will be dashed upon the rocks...
Like the old days now forgotten,
We'll tighten up our belts,
And reminisce about the good times,
'Cos we know how good it felt...
