marshalling / new driver training

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen, I have now completed my first full month as an elected Board Member and I will soon be attending my first official Board Meeting. I must say that I'm impressed, not only with the professionalism of the fellow Members of the Board, but also with their wide-ranging knowledge of our industry, which will surely help me as I go further into my term of office. Staff in all departments are equally as proficient and I can safely say that we have an excellent team in place at Brunswick House working on your behalf.
As I mentioned in my previous article, my responsibilities are for New Driver Training and Marshalling. In this capacity, there are a few points that I'd like to bring to your attention.

Training on the New Terminal
It has been decided that for a trial period, there will be a Driver Trainer on site at the fitting bay in Roman Way to assist and help you all with any problems that you may have with the new terminal. This will begin on the first Wednesday in April between the hours of 2 pm and 5.30 pm and will run every Wednesday for as long as the demand is there. Please make use of this service as it is designed to assist you with any type of problem that you may incur while using the new 'touch screen' terminal.

Allan Evans

We are now well into the changeover and re-fitting program from old to new terminals, so in the not too distant future the old terminal will no longer be fitted to any of our mobiles. The new terminal is certainly well worth waiting for...

Cabot Square E14C
As you know, there have been some incidents lately of a Dial-a-Cab subscriber whilst on a street hiring actually being attacked and injured by the passenger in their taxi. Many of our members would now prefer not to pick up from the cash ranks late into the evening because of this and would also choose to cover one of our most prestigious accounts, which is serviced from this rank.
After careful consideration, it has been decided to disband the E14C rank using the E14 zone for trip allocation between the hours of 20.00 and midnight - again for a trial period. This will give you all the opportunity to cover only account work if you so wish, while still giving you the option of using the cash only rank as an alternative.

The rank will be non-physical during these hours and the marshals at Cabot Square will strictly monitor run-ins. All drivers must reach the pick-up point within the normal fifteen minutes after accepting a trip from the E14 zone and complaints will be processed against any driver who fails to comply with these procedures.
This is such a lucrative account and every effort must be made to give Morgan Stanley the service they expect. This change will come into effect on Monday, 9th April and terminal messages will be sent out nearer the date to keep you all informed.
Can I also ask you to assist the marshals when you give your locations at Cabot Square and to also be aware that many of the clients who stand waiting for their taxis to arrive, can hear everything that is said around them, so please act accordingly.
Just one final request, if you expect to arrive late for any type of radio pick-up, can you please send a delay advise message through your terminal to the control room who can then in turn inform the client of an updated arrival time. This alleviates many problems - especially if the passenger is working to a tight time schedule.
I hope that these changes will improve your working patterns and I look forward to meeting you out on the road and at Cabot Square.

TERMINALLY ILL CHILDREN SAY THANK YOU
Dial-a-Cab's Jim Rainbird (T25) was just one of a group of licensed taxi drivers who made a sentimental return to say 'hi' to a group of children from Chase Farm Hospital in Enfield who, on the last occasion they had all met was on the annual kids trip to Disneyland organised by the Company of Hackney Carriage Drivers.
The meeting had been organised by hospital staff and parents of the children who are all in the Kingfisher Ward.
The kids had departed from Canary Wharf on September 15 in front of the television cameras and the Sheriff of the City of London, Pauline Halliday. Over 100 taxis loaded with smiling kids and helpers formed a convoy of almost three miles in length guarded by Met Police outriders.
But the kids of the Kingfisher Ward were concerned that they had had such a great time, yet hadn't really said thanks.
Jim Rainbird told Call Sign:
"Returning to see those kids was a very emotional experience, but it was great to know that they had such a memorable time."
