DAC - ADVERTISE THE SOCIETY AND SUBS GO DOWN!

In a move set to shake the world of licensed taxi radio circuits, Brian Rice has announced on behalf of the Dial-a-Cab BoM that the current subscription rate of £110 per month (including VAT) will be LOWERED as of June 1st 2000, to £105. This, in a month when the new in-cab terminals are due to commence fitting!
It was already the lowest rate of any of the three main circuits, but this is the first time that subscriptions have ever been lowered on DaC - or any other circuit - from the flat rate and represents the successful transformation that this Society has undergone in recent years to be

successfully entrenched as the number one radio taxi company certainly in London - and probably the UK.
However, the subscription reduction only applies to those members who display the new Dial-a-Cab door logos. Should any drivers decide NOT to advertise the Society, and that is of course within their rights, then their basic subscription will be INCREASED to £125 per month (including VAT) giving a monthly difference of £20 and representing a yearly "payment" to those carrying our logos of £240.
Brian also stated that those drivers with thirty years service and who only pay a nominal fee of £1 per month would have to carry door logos or they would forfeit their reduction and pay the new rate of £125.
Many corporate clients are asking for logo'd cabs, according to the Chairman, and this new scheme is also designed to help towards the
goal of 100% corporate logos on DaC taxis.
Call Sign asked Alan Nash (A95) what he thought of the new scheme and did he think it fair?
"I think the idea is brilliant,"
he said. "I wasn't mad on the corporate logo at first, but it would never have occurred to me not to have it on my cab. I think it important that we have an identity and I believe that every cab should sport our logos. So if I am now paying £20 a month less than someone who doesn't have them, I feel that to be justice. And incidentally, I now think that our logo is far and away the best one."
Len Bell (L1) has been with Dial-a-Cab for 28 years: “I think it is a brilliant conception, just a great idea!” he told Call Sign. “As for the ‘thirty year’ drivers, I can’t imagine any of them having so little gratitude that they have ever refused to put our logos on…”

DAC DRIVERS INVITED TO 'TEA AND WEE' AT VINOPOLIS!

Vinopolis, the unique wine 'edutainment' experience on the Thames at Bankside, has announced a new initiative that will see tea and coffee as well as toilet facilities being offered free of charge to London's taxi drivers – a facility only too rare in the City.
As the preferred mode of transport to attractions such as Vinopolis, the taxi trade plays an important role in promoting and sustaining these attractions. By way of a ‘thank you,’ the doors of the Vinopolis Wine Wharf (entrance on Stoney Street opposite Borough Market) will be opened and a welcome extended to all licensed cab drivers bearing their badge. 'Refuelling' at Vinopolis will give cabbies the chance to relax with a free hot drink and to use the toilet facilities.

This on-going commitment to London's cabbies coincides with the continued re-development of the Millennium Mile. In common with Vinopolis, an increasing number of high profile London attractions are springing up around Bankside.
The subsequent increase in taxi traffic in the area has highlighted the shortage of convenient stop- off points for busy drivers working in the vicinity. Vinopolis' new scheme will go some way towards redressing the balance and will help establish the new attraction and its location in the forefront of the London taxi driver's mind.
Speaking to Call Sign Magazine, Kate Hampton, Vinopolis’ Marketing Director told us:

“At Vinopolis, Londoners and visitors to London alike are able to indulge their passion for wine and we're delighted to be opening the doors to London's cab drivers. As a major

Gerry Slattery & Tony Varchione

attraction at Bankside, many of our visitors choose to travel to us by taxi. As such, we wanted to extend a big thank you to all London's cabbies who are in effect an extension of our team”.
A visit to Vinopolis on your day off will provide an interactive tour of the world’s wine cultures with a free audio guide (in six languages) and five free wine tastings. There is also the Cantina Vinopolis, which serves food dishes prepared by top chefs.
Vinopolis is open 7 days a week. The times are 10.00 – 5.30  on Tues, Wed, Thurs and Friday – last entrance 3.30 AND Sat, Sun and Monday from 10.00 – 7.00pm – last admission 6.00pm.
   Admission: £11.50 adults…Senior Citizens £10.50…Children £5.
And don’t forget, whenever you feel thirsty or fancy ‘paying a visit’, as a licensed taxi driver you are always welcome at Vinopolis…
