believes that it began LH followed by four digits. Unfortunately the
copied details have been mislaid while the originals were buried
with him! Robin told Call Sign: “My great grandfather was born in 1858/59 and got married in 1881 to Harriett Herrett. They had seven children and lived in York Road, Islington for the first part of their married life and then the trail goes cold (Editor’s note: That may be York Way). He retired in 1831 and at sometime during WW2 his home was bombed and he moved to Willesden to live with one of his daughters, (married name Rodgers). My own father always insisted that Herbert was the last hansom cab driver in London, we believe he owned the business himself but do not know the scale, only that his son-in-law worked for him and met his future wife - Herbert's daughter - at that time.” If you can help Robin, please contact Call Sign and we will pass on any relevant info… |
