New Terminals
We have now started fitting our new terminals and the initial feedback that we are receiving from members is excellent. We are hopeful that the amount of problems that we have will be minimal, so now you are asking: "When will I get mine?"
The criteria that we will be using is as follows: Any new member to the Society will be fitted with old equipment, but any existing member who changes his taxi for a new one will receive the new equipment - providing that he is completing more than 100 credit trips per month. Otherwise the old equipment will be refitted using the new fitting pole. We will be taking delivery of 100 units per month and after subtracting the number of new terminals that we fit to members who are changing their vehicle and have completed 100 trips, the remaining units will be fitted to members' cabs that have completed the most credit work. For example, if we fit 20 terminals to members who are changing vehicles and have completed the 100 trips, the remaining 80 units will be fitted to the top 80 members that have completed the most trips, unless of course they are changing vehicles in the near future.

Finsbury Square Rank - EC5
You should all now be aware of the new procedures that are operating in the City at night. We have had to bring in these new measures due to poor coverage and complaints from clients; we really do need to improve our service at night.
Traditionally, August is a quieter month and it will give us the opportunity to increase the size of the fleet before we get really busy again in September, while the number of new mobiles that we fit will depend on the service and coverage that we give to our clients. We are in the fortunate position of having a very large waiting list so the recruitment of new members, providing they fulfil our criteria, should be sufficient to swell our numbers and improve our service.
Whilst we are on the subject of work in the City, it has come to our attention that the EC12 rank is being exploited by members booking in when they are not

actually there. We are now monitoring all the City ranks more vigorously, so please play the game.

JRTA Golf Tournament
You will read elsewhere in Call Sign a report of the JRTA golf competition. I attended the dinner in the evening and I am delighted that for the fifth successive year, the competition was won by Dial-a-Cab. I understand that it was an extremely successful day and although very competitive, it was conducted in a spirit of friendly rivalry. So I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our twelve golfers, you were all a credit to this company. However, there might have to be an increase in subscriptions in order to pay for all the engraving on the cup that we have to do every year!

New Accounts
You should all now be aware of the new accounts that we have taken on board recently. Because Dial-a-Cab in recent times has gained a very high profile, this has helped us to attract new custom, however, I am very aware that I

do not cover one trip - you do.
There is only so much that the BoM can do, we can take on more work and we can endeavour to appease clients when things go wrong, but it's you the members that retain the work by giving them a service when they need it, so it's over to you chaps.

Call Sign Event
The Editor of our magazine (whose name escapes me at the moment) recently organised an event at the HAC City Rd to honour the past Chairmen of Dial-a-Cab. I must say that I really enjoyed the afternoon meeting again former Chairmen Bonnie Martyn, Jack Russell, Martin Gellman and Aubrey Siteman. Also in attendance were Mrs Frank Duncan, Mrs Jack Taylor and Mrs Phil Messias. It was all very nostalgic and I believe everyone enjoyed themselves relaying old stories. I must say that I heard a few tales that I never knew anything about!
There was also a presentation to Jery Craig, our former Editor and cartoonist extraordinaire. Roy Ellis, the Principal officer at the PCO, made the presentation. I'm afraid that I can't take any credit for the afternoon. It was thought of by Alan Fisher and financed by Call Sign, it was a very nice touch and I was pleased to be in the company of so many delightful people (No Alan, I am not going to do one for you)...

CALL SIGN MOURNS ADVERTISING MANAGER

James Garvey: 1931 - 2000

Call Sign staff were shocked to hear in June of the sudden death of this magazine's Advertising Manager, James Garvey.
One of five brothers born in Ireland, James was well known throughout the trade's newspaper industry having worked for many of its' titles. As an in-house magazine, Call Sign doesn't take many adverts, but that never stopped James asking if we had room for this ad or that one...!
He was a quiet and very private man who had a 'wicked' sense of humour that he only released when he knew the person well. He was also multi-lingual speaking several languages including Russian.
James body was received in his beloved Ireland at the church in Ballysheedy. Those who knew him will miss him because there was only ever one James Garvey.
Call Sign sends it condolences to his two surviving brothers.
Alan Fisher
