TAXI DRIVER OF THE YEAR SHOW 2000:
BACK AT BATTERSEA PARK!
For the first time in several years, the Taxi Driver of the
Year Show will be back "home" in London's Battersea Park.
On Sunday September 10th, you and your family will be able to enjoy
a great fun day out at the longest-running show of its kind in the
world.
In addition to the Dunlop Taxi Driver of the Year
itself and the magnificent prizes that go with it, there is the All
Comers Cup which Call Sign's Internet readership may be interested
in. So long as you are a licensed taxi driver from the UK (other
than London), you may enter this fun obstacle course that tests your
driving ability to the limit. Interested? Send your name, address,
type of vehicle you drive and where you are licensed to Russell
Polluk, 5 St Brides Avenue, Edgware, Middx. HA8 6BR. You can phone
Russell on 0208 9521357.
There will also be trade and charity stalls, a
children's fun fair, perhaps a few surprises and hopefully, of
course, Dial-a-Cab with it's new terminal and Internet booking
facility.
Put it down in your calendar: Sunday September 10th at
Battersea Park. Let's make it the best one ever...!

Every issue of Call Sign takes a look back at ODRTS
history through the pages of its magazine of the time with a
Flashback...
FLASHBACK (1956)
ODRTS GREETS 100th MEMBER
ODRTS Chairman Bonnie Martyn is seen here congratulating Mr Cyril
Nathan on his 'Oxford' taxi being the 100th taxicab to join our radio
circuit.
London radio taxicabs have certainly come a long way
since the pioneer, an 'Oxford', passed a special inspection at
Scotland Yard some seven years ago in December 1949. Today there are
over 630 in service.
ODRTS wishes Cyril a long and happy future with us.

FLASHBACK (1985)
Obituary: Dennis Samuels - May 26th 1985
As Senior Dispatcher on Dial-a-Cab, Dennis had a very keen wit and
good humour that was always apparent while he was despatching during
his many years with 'Lords' and Dial-a-Cab. He showed himself to be
one of the finest dispatchers of radio work ever to have been with
ODRTS. He ranks in the memory of older drivers with that of Johnny
Thwaites.
Many will remember how Dennis could clear a board of
dockets, during peak times and still have time for his drivers. No one
could quite rattle off job after job the way he could. Dennis will
always he remembered by radio and non-radio men wherever they meet,
because even though he was a small man in size, he had a very big
heart.
Dennis was a great character who had many friends that
will always remember him.
