Chairman’s Report

Early June saw the first of our monthly liaison meetings between the Board and our members, four of whom members, not Board Members actually attended. The monthly get together will continue, let’s hope they are better attended in the future. Just to remind you that the dates for these meetings are first Tuesday of every month commencing 1800 hours sharp.

In case You Missed It…
Since the Extra General Meeting of February 8th, 1987, the Board of Management have endeavoured to negotiate a contract with the society’s preferred supplier of a data dispatch system, Dowty Information System Limited.
Part of the proposed contract included a guarantee on a minimum data throughput of 350 jobs per hour on each channel. Following a number of random access messages (driver functions). This is totally unacceptable to us and we believe, not in the interests of the member of our society.
Therefore Dowty Information Systems Ltd are no longer the approved supplier and we have now reached a stage of negotiation with the approved back up supplier, Mobile Data International (MDI) whereby contract signing is now imminent. All guarantees request and a contract dependant on P.C.O approval have been agreed to.
The Board of Management is now confident that the future of our society is assured and that each and every one of us will profit greatly from the new system, which should be fully operational by October 1988.

It’s Mobile Data International!
At long last, after two years of investigating, assessing and thoroughly scrutinising different suppliers of data communications, the Board of Management have finally decided that the contract for supply of a system should be awarded to mobile data international (M.D.I) U.K Ltd. The contract signing took place just a few days ago. As I have already stated in an earlier letter to all subscribers, the Board of Management decided upon M.D.I following our failure to reach agreement with the then preferred supplier, Dowty Information Systems Ltd.
As you may recall the mains reason M.D.I were not put forward originally as the preferred supplier was the cost of the system, this has now been re-appraised and we shall be getting very favourable terms from M.D.I plus of course the guaranteed data throughput on which we could not obtain full agreement with Dowty. Although M.D.I U.K are a new company, every part of the contract is backed by the parent company, M.D.I of Vancouver British Columbia. I am certain that we can now look forward to being the largest and most finely equipped radio taxi service anywhere in the world, with a company with a track record in installing taxi systems which is understandable and both M.D.I and ourselves are determined to ensure that all of our members fears are put to rest before the live date which is scheduled for October 1988. It’s therefore important that you make time for most of the seminars exhibitions and training sessions that will be arranged between now and next year.
