Friends
and colleagues of Paul Bishop (R64) were left in stunned shock on Monday
May 17th when they heard the tragic news that Paul had died in
hospital just before midnight on the previous evening. He was 44 years of
age. Paul had been diagnosed as having Motor Neuron disease - an illness that causes a progressive degeneration of the motor system and gradual weakness and wastage of the muscles - in October 1998, but the illness spread far quicker than anticipated. Born in Hackney in 1955, he leaves a wife Bernadette and two children Danielle (15) and Joseph (12). He also leaves his mother, father and a sister. Call Sign readers will remember the reports of his marathon runs in aid of BLISS (Baby Life Support Systems). Together with three other |

subscribers, John Dixon (B67), Phil Stern (B98J) and Bob Woodford
(P49) he ran three London Marathons and one in Dublin, competed in two ‘Tough
Guy’ competitions and many half marathons and 10K runs. These were all
sponsored with the proceeds going to BLISS. In partnership with Phil Stern, he produced ‘Tyrecover’ for the taxi spare wheel which is still going ahead and which was first advertised in Call Sign several months ago. His friends had originally organised a benefit night for June 5th at the St Bede's Church Hall, Bishops Avenue, Chadwell Heath. This will still be going ahead with the proceeds going to his family. Speaking to Call Sign on behalf of Paul’s three Dial-a-Cab running partners, Phil Stern said:

The four of us were a team, but Paul wasn’t just my
running partner, he was one of my closest friends. He had so many friends
both in and out of the cab trade and was a real character who lived for
his family. He was a real battler and went into hospital for that ‘last chance’ op on May 19th knowing that the chances were slim of even slowing down the illness, but he also knew that if nothing else, the information gained from the operation could possibly help someone else in the future. He always had a joke to tell and a smile on his face and we will all miss him terribly. All his pals at the Piccolo in Hertford Street, The Chelsea Kitchen and everyone at the Green Badge Hailers Running Club would like their sympathies sent to his family. The BoM and staff of Dial-a-Cab, together with drivers and Call Sign Magazine, would like to echo Phil’s sentiments and send our deepest sympathies to Paul’s family. PAUL BISHOP: 1955 - 1999 |

CREDIT CARDS Last month we printed the correct procedure for processing credit card trips through the system. Unfortunately some of you are still not doing it properly (for want of a better expression!) Please refer to last months Call Sign. Please don’t forget, no call sign or badge number on the docket will result in NON PAYMENT. Even after a warning, some of you are still swiping credit cards through more than once, seemingly in the belief that a refusal to sanction a card trip for over £50 can be got round by swiping it several times. If you try it and do the trip, you will lose out, so please be aware. LOST DOCKETS |
are paid weekly could wait for two payments before
submitting lost docket forms, for those paid fortnightly one payment and
those who are paid monthly, upon receipt of their payment sheets. |
payment sheets are
no longer sent from the office . All lost docket forms, once dealt with,
are kept on file at the office.
