JRTA chairman Aubrey Siteman presents DaC with the
winners cup
Once again Dial-a-Cab have beaten all-comers in the radio taxi industry to take the JRTA Golf Championship - the fourth successive year that we have done so. |
|
This year's event was held at Aldenham Golf Club near
Watford. All four circuits put up their best twelve drivers together with
two members of staff from their offices. The day started with the usual four drivers from each circuit playing a 9-hole Texas scramble. A trophy for the best team from each circuit was up for grabs and the winning team was, of course, Dial-a-Cab! Our foursome were Jim Crawford, Tommy Aldridge, John Rowland and William Frampton. The 9-hole morning round gave the teams a chance to get a feel of the well-presented course. After lunch, the teams set off from both the first and tenth tees. This time the teams of four consisted of one player from each circuit. There was a prize for the best individual on the day. The best individual of each circuit plus each player's score counting to see which circuit would win the JRTA Cup. By the time the teams finished, the heads of the radio circuits had started to arrive. Initially it looked as though Radio Taxis were going to take the valued trophy. But with |
two groups left, Dial-a-Cab were starting to
make their run. Two of the Computer Cab early starters had held back
their cards, this kept everyone on tender-hooks right through dinner.
The final scores showed a ten point difference between first and last.
Radio Taxis scored 455 points, Computer Cab 459, Data Cab 460 and
Dial-a-Cab 465 giving us the win for the fourth year running! Call Sign sends it's congratulations to the team - especially to Martin Madden for finishing as our best driver on the day with 38 points - just one point clear of the Call Centre's Bradley McDonald and Peter Boxall (junior). The outright winner was Barry Jones of Data Cab. DAC's Peter Boxall (Junior) won the 'longest drive' trophy and Michael Mercer of Radio Taxis won the 'nearest the pin' trophy. Unfortunately, James Cox and Bradley McDonald, our two staff members, couldn't find the form of previous years to retain the team trophy. This year it went to Data Cab who beat Computer Cab on a count back. All credit to the Dial-a-Cab team |
though - now four-time
winners of the JRTA trophy. Despite the lengths that the other circuits
go to in selecting their teams, Dial-a-Cab drivers are a hard bunch to
beat! The day was, as usual, very well organised and a big thank-you goes to the four members of each circuit for their efforts. Barry Hooper (Computer Cab), Jack Moss (Radio Taxis), Alan Gilbey (Data Cab) and Keith Cain (Dial-a-Cab). A special thanks to Keith who kept the whole day running smoothly and to clockwork. Keith told Call Sign: "Watch out for me next year! I've been given the go-ahead to go out and play every week and I am now feeling - and looking - more positive." He looks like being in fine form to compete for a place and give some of our drivers a run for their money! If you are a good handicap golfer and would like to play in the team, watch out next spring for the Dial-a-Cab driver's Golf Day. Team selection will be the top twelve players from that day. |
