TONY'S LOGOS WIN A VIEWER'S DREAM PACKET!

A delighted Tony Sterling collects his prize from Brian Rice
Tony Sterling (E38) had just returned from holiday with his wife Eileen and came back down to earth with a resounding bump! His cab was in overhaul with the usual huge bill soon to pay. If that were not enough, and perhaps even more importantly, his TV was almost ready to wave bye-bye to this mortal coil!
"I was going to try to hang on until digital television was all you could get and then buy a new one," said a very happy Tony.
Why was he happy? Well, at the tail end of June, a very special DaC logo draw took place at Brunswick House. Drawn by Chairman Brian Rice, first to come out was an Echo prefix - which fortunately meant that the Editor was out of the running! Then dipping into the other bag, Brian pulled out the number 38. E38 was the winning number and if the driver had the new Dial-a-Cab logos on both front doors, he would walk away with the
magical prize - jointly sponsored by Dial-a-Cab and SkyDigital - of a 28 inch wide-screen colour TV with it's own case (and a retail price of £849); free fitting of the SkyDigital set-top box and new satellite dish AND - as if that weren't enough - 12 months free subscription to SkyDigital's top package. As a welcome by-product, as SkyDigital users, the winner would now get a whopping 40% off their BT phone bills and free access to the Internet via the PC. And it all went to Tony Sterling...
What's the new TV package like? "It's absolutely brilliant" said a beaming Tony, "I can't get Eileen away from it! We have enough channels to sink a battleship! I thought that our old cable system was quite good, but it's nothing compared to this - in both vision and sound quality and quantity!"
A wink from Eileen perhaps paints a truer picture as to who it is that won't leave the 'new toy' alone!
Tony has been with Dial-a-Cab
for almost 25 years and has always had the DaC logos on his cab. "When they were first introduced in the 1970's, I had my first ones put on by Jack Taylor and whenever new ones were introduced, I always have  them put on. I just can't understand the logic in any of our drivers not advertising our own company."
Tony and Eileen have an 'assortment' of grown-up children spread around the globe from Dartford to Holland. Their daughter, Joanna Mays, is an accomplished actress who is currently wowing them at London's Palace Theatre in Les Miserables.
The only concern Tony had when we told him that he had won the logo draw was whether the fact that he was on cable would be a problem.
"I had no problem at all" said Tony, "I just phoned the cable company and told them that I was going onto Sky's satellite. This dish is also much nicer and smaller than those original bulky looking things. The whole thing is just great..."

'SKYTALK' FROM SKY:
40% OFF TELEPHONE CALLS!

Sky have launched a phenomenal offer to their digital customers - Skytalk. This service gives a 40% discount off calls compared to BT basic rates. Combined with Sky's digital television offering and its free Internet Service Provider, this represents a hugely compelling digital proposition.
All SkyDigital customers with a BT phone line on a digital exchange will be able to use Skytalk. Once registered, all users need do is key in a 3-digit access code to get the 40% discount. There is no need for a new phone or installation. The discount applies to all calls whether they are local, national, international, on-line or mobile. Only calls to BT services such as directory enquiries, are excluded.
Customers who take the smallest (£7 a month) SkyDigital package could end up actually saving money by signing up to SkyDigital! This offers 5 TV and digital audio channels in addition to the13 free channels available on the digital satellite platform - including the BBC channels. If they normally spend a modest £20 a month on call charges at BT standard rates, they would save £8 a month through the 40% Skytalk discount so, in reality, once they are a SkyDigital subscriber, they will actually see their monthly outgoing fall by £1.
The telephone discount goes with the offer
detailed in last month's Call Sign which includes a free digital box, a free dish and free access to the Internet via Sky's free Internet Service Provider, Skynow.
All on-line charges by Skytalk customers to Sky's ISP are covered by the discount, allowing SkyDigital customers to access the Internet at very cheap rates. You pay just £40 for the professional installation of the box and dish. If you do not actually subscribe to Sky, the installation is £100.
Ian West, Managing Director of Sky Entertainment, told Call Sign:
"Sky is offering a fantastic digital deal. There is a huge choice of high quality channels with digital quality pictures and sound. With a free box, free ISP and very cheap telephone call prices, Sky aims to become the leading provider of entertainment, information and interactivity to the home."
Mr West went on to say: "Unlike most discounted telephone deals, Sky's 40% discount off BT's basic rates applies to calls to any place, at any time of day. It also covers on-line calls, making access to the Internet extraordinarily cheap through Sky's free ISP via the P.C."

Call Sign would again like to thank SkyDigital for jointly sponsoring the June logo draw...
