(hits)
have been actioned on The London Net. This has been achieved since we started to submit
the URL address to the various Search Engines in May. Naturally, I am delighted that there
are so many visitors looking at The London Net.
I will leave Vince to explain, Search Engines, URL's, impressions, etc. to
those readers who are interested in technical details.
In point of fact, our monitoring data can determine (1) how many people are
looking at the site; (2) what part of the world they come from; (3) How much time is spent
looking at the different pieces of information; (4) how much time do they spend with our
advertisers and what questions do they ask. This is of great value to our advertisers,
especially if marketing messages are complimenting an existing marketing strategy. Unlike
conventional advertising in newspapers, magazines etc it is difficult to gauge response.
VINCE CHINS CALL SIGN COMMENTS
I take on board Vince's comment about the Feedback Page. As you know, new
computer software and hardware is coming onto the market daily. Therefore to keep ahead of
the race, we try different ways of improving performance. Some of our purchases do not
come up to expectations; therefore we go back to tried and tested formats. The Feedback
Page is now on-line again and is being used constantly
I have been asked if we can include a Taxi Drivers section within the site.
If anyone would like to submit a relevant name for this section and if there is enough
interest, we would be pleased to include this facility. If any drivers, or in fact anyone
associated with the taxi industry, would like to take advantage of The |
London
Net, please send your articles on anything of interest, i.e. taxi related subjects,
comments on the taxi trade, the impact of minicab legislation on our trade. Also, if you
have any interesting hobbies or just want to moan.
Submissions can be sent via our Feedback Page or the old fashioned ways, Fax
or even write it! We will insert articles, provided they are not defamatory.
When the Taxi Drivers Section is implemented, it could give the opportunity
to those who represent our trade to reach a much wider audience. As you are to well aware,
there are sometimes unfounded, ill-reported, scurrilous articles about taxi drivers. Even
when the truth is available, the general press rarely prints retractions. We hope this
will redress the balance, especially to the millions that do access the Internet.
I do believe a section for the taxi trade will also give those that supply
and service our industry another marketing tool to promote their services. Hopefully,
those who have the best interest of the taxi industry in mind or those companies that
service the public - for example radios circuits - will see the value of the Internet.
CHALLENGES
Numerous people, have asked why I take on so many projects? I have a need
to take on different challenges and The London Net is most certainly a challenge. I wanted
to give the opportunity to those millions of people who access the Internet and may be
looking for information about London. Who better to give information about London, than a
London cabdriver? The commercial opportunities on The Net are endless. The purchase of
goods and services are increasing every day. More people travelling abroad pre-book their
hotels etc on the Internet The London Net customers will be able to order flight |
tickets, book restaurants and accommodation, car hire and taxis. In fact anything
one can think of.
Some people's perception of the Internet is of a toy for the kids with only
games to amuse. Make no mistake; millions are being invested within this technology. Many
high street banks have web sites. Eventually you will be encouraged to perform as many
financial transactions on the Internet as possible.
The Internet is here and there is no turning back. I would urge all to
investigate the benefits as well as the pit falls, of using this interactive and
informational facility.

THE DIAL-A-CAB INTERNET CUSTOMER FACILITY
I am also pleased to see that DAC has come up trumps with the Internet
facility that I am proud to have started while on the BoM. Its functionality seems
to works well and I am sure it will be available for customer trials within a short while.
I can only wish the project the best of success; it will be of benefit to
all.
