work. As far as I am concerned, complimentary services will not be detrimental to DAC and it’s members. At the very least, if it was successful, the revenue derived from a One-Stop-Transport-Shop could allow the opportunity for us not to pay our monthly subscriptions.
CS: I know that you were proud of your contribution to DAC as a BOM. You must have felt awful at being voted off. Exactly how did you feel at that moment?

MS: I felt as though I had been kicked in the teeth or perhaps even a bit lower down! I had accepted it could happen when I was first elected as has happened to my predecessors and some who sit on the Board today. Even though I did not leave acrimoniously, it nevertheless is very difficult to leave the rostrum with an air of dignity and I did feel pretty sad. But things move on.
CS: How did you become involved with the London Taxi Drivers Fund for Underprivileged Children?
MS: I was introduced to The Fund by the-then Chairman Gerry Dunn. He asked if I would consider joining the committee. I had to think about the idea for a short while because I knew that I could never be just a passive member of any committee and it was important for me to devote time and energy. I decided to join and was accepted by the committee. Since then, I have enjoyed every moment. Taking on new projects, making new friends, meeting so many different people but above all, helping children that desperately need support. There are thousands of kids who still need help even in 1998
CS: Tell us about your web site and what you hope to achieve.
MS: Leaving the BOM was a blow to my confidence, therefore I had to find another project. During my last few months I was active in a project with the Internet in mind. I realised that DAC should have a presence within that technology. Ultimately allowing customers to use that facility to order their cabs. I hope that the BOM is continuing that project. I am certainly very pleased that you are using the

Internet to promote Call Sign Magazine. You obviously see the value. Being so enthusiastic about the Internet, I decided to form my own company, The London Internet Publishing Company Ltd. I am The Managing Director and have a partnership with a Microsoft Solution Provider. On May 1st we are launching a web site ‘The London Net’ It will be the most comprehensive guide for London on the Internet, i.e. restaurants, theatres, business facilities, transport, community and a special interests sections, including one on missing persons, news of the day plus lots more. In fact, in the future you should be able to order anything from a pizza to a cab. What I have also included is a Cabbies Corner. For far to long, it has been very difficult for representatives of the taxi trade to act or react on scurrilous articles written about us. Cabbies Corner will give the opportunity to make comment and vent your feelings to a much wider audience. It will also give an opportunity for those associated with the taxi industry to write stories about what it is really like driving a cab in London or, in fact, anything of interest. Maybe you are an actor, a mountain climber, a story teller? In fact we will accept anything provided it is not libellous!
CS: Thanks Mike. Good luck with The London Net and we hope to see you back driving in full health very soon.
MS: Thanks Al, I enjoyed the chat….
