MERRY CHRISTMAS MR BLOWER!
Just when you thought you could forget about Christmas for another year, Media
Watch casts a retrospective look at some of the stories which appeared in the papers
during and around Christmas.
Evening Standard cartoonist, Mr Blower, wished Londoners a merry
commercial Christmas and could not resist having a dig at the number of
companies cashing in on this supposedly religious occasion. In a cartoon entitled
"Next Year theyre going for a sponsor for Bethlehem", Blower captured a
congested pre-Christmas Regent Street complete with a stressed Dial-a-Cab driver and
hoardings crammed with advertisements. Merry Christmas to you too, Mr Blower!
THE DAC DEBATERS CLUB STRIKE AGAIN
On a more positive note, it seems that Dial-a-Cab drivers are
increasingly being identified as an important voice in London with our drivers views being
sought on a range of topics.
Dial-a-Cab drivers views on the proposed pedestrianisation of Westminster formed
the heart of a debate on London news radio station, News Direct 97.3 and as usual, our
chaps came straight to the point - regardless of the question!
And Dial-a-Cab driver Martin Freeborn (C67), the proud first owner of a shiny new TX1,
also rose to fame this month. He appeared on TVs Newsroom South East news commenting
on the new cab, not to mention the French television programme Turbo, shown on the Canal 6
channel in la belle France.
At last the press is starting to realise that as the most frequent road users in London,
taxi drivers are well placed to offer an opinion. |
THE DAC MUSIC LOVERS SOCIETY
It wasnt just our drivers who hit the headlines this month. One of
Londons top radio stations, HEART 106.2 played the top
12 fave Christmas tracks of the Dial a Cab Credit Control Centre. Top DJ Scott Mills spoke
to DACs Ray Weston on-air together with lots of background screams from the lovely
ladies who keep Ray company - although department boss, Caroline McGowan, has assured
Mediawatch that she doesnt scream for anybody!
According to Scott, he knew DAC well as he spoke of "
many happy
hours waiting for his cab to turn up." He DID add that he was only joking and
mimicked our Customer Service Reps - okay, our telephonists - with their "
a cab
will be with you within ten minutes!"
Tracks selected ranged from Slades Merry Christmas Everybody to Bings White
Christmas with thevery classy Celine Dion holding everything else together. HEART
106.2 is now considered by many to be the number one music station in
London. DACs Credit Control Centre doesnt play music, but THEY too are number
one
!
