own car, may well be keen to use taxis to get around the Capital once the express bus has ferried them in.
So, would Jeffrey Archer’s scheme help London’s streets to start moving again? It is reasonable to suggest that some people would be unwilling to use the service as it wouldn’t be compulsory. A large enough majority may prefer to continue driving in every day and added to that would be a total of 300 express buses stream into Central London every hour.
Do you have a view on Jeffrey Archer’s plan? Let Call Sign know what you think.

In the October issue of Call Sign, we published an interview with London Mayoral candidate-to-be, taxi driver Chas Kissin. This was later picked up by London Taxi Times and followed closely by The Evening Standard and London’s Carlton Television.

He specifically added that taxis would be allowed to drive along these lanes but that other traffic would not - rather like the existing bus lanes.
This scheme would cost £70 million to set up and a further £105 million a year to run (not including revenue from fares). However, he claims that this is well within the existing budget and would remove the need to raise taxes or impose road pricing.
How would this plan specifically benefit taxi drivers? Well, it opens up a new target market of commuters who would be effectively stranded in central London if they all leave their cars at one of the designated ‘park and ride’ points. These people, used to the convenience of their
