Call Sign’s first question was obvious! How did Richard Barford (R39) feel when DaC Chairman Brian Rice phoned to tell him that his name had just been drawn by PCO Head Officer, Roy Ellis, as the winner of Dial-a-Cab’s Christmas incentive prize of a brand new top-of-the-range ‘gold’ TXII valued at £35,000?
"I almost fell off the cab seat,"
said Richard, "even with hands free, it was lucky that Brian asked me to pull over!  For one second, because I couldn’t see the DaC number on my phone, I thought it was a wind-up and it was only when I heard Nuala Glavin’s voice (Driver Service Manager) in the background that I realised it was for real!"
Beginning to calm down just a tad, Richard went on to tell Call Sign about the rest of that day…
   " It’s almost a blur,"
he added, "so much happened in such a short space of time! But it really is brilliant to have won the taxi and I am so grateful to Brian and the DaC Board for putting up this excellent prize.  While sitting in the traffic, you sometimes dream about winning things such as the Lottery, but when it actually happens it takes a while for the reality to sink in."

Who did Richard break the news to first, we asked?
"My Mum was my first thought and call. I also promised her that she'd be my first passenger when I took delivery,"
Richard said with a beaming smile.
Richard has been on Dial-a-Cab for ten years with two breaks for travelling around the world. His destinations included South America, Australia, New Zealand

and even Cambodia!
"I rented out my cab during the times I was away, often for many months at a time"
said the thirty-five year old from Enfield.
And what about the new cab he had earlier picked up from KPM UK?
"It drives beautifully," he said with a huge grin, "I had leather upholstery and a few other extras fitted before I took delivery. There was one minor problem which KPM sorted out immediately and I am now just so delighted. My previous cabs have been black, so this silver colour is a pleasant change - even though
it is classified as a ‘gold’ spec!"
And then he was off – but not in a puff of smoke!
The incentive scheme ran from 1 November until midnight on New Year’s Eve and gave "one entry point" into the prize draw for any account trip DaC drivers completed between the hours of 06.00-10.00, 12.00-14.00 and 21.00-24.00 on Monday to Friday or ANY account trip completed between midnight Friday until midnight Sunday.
The second prize of 6 weeks holiday taken over whatever period you wanted was won by Terry Goldsmith (R74) and Gerald Ward (G53) won the third prize – one year of free subs…
