Thursday 7th July 2005, a day forever synonymous
with terrorist atrocities in London, 40 taxis
containing war veterans went with the
London Taxi Benevolent Association for War
Disabled, led as usual by
the Charity’s Chairman - DaC’s
Mike Calvey (B95) - to attend a
reception at Clarence House given by Prince
Charles, accompanied by Camilla. Inside Clarence House, LTBAWD President – former DaC driver and Board member - Harry Joel MBE, together with Vera Lynn, Mike Calvey and Secretary Paul Davis were presented to the Prince prior to attending the reception. Prince Charles later made a short speech saying that he was impressed by what he had been told about the LTBAWD and what they do for the veterans. Mike Calvey thanked the Prince and presented him with a mounted London Taxi Licence plate together with green and yellow taxi driver’s badges. The charity was then scheduled to go to the Tower Thistle Hotel for a pre-ordered meal, but due to the terrorist activity was advised to stay at St. James Park. They phoned the hotel Manager to explain the situation and he understood the situation, refusing a cancellation fee. The LTBAWD would like to extend their thanks to the hotel for their kind understanding. |

Credit Cards also have secret markings that only show up under the light Last month Call Sign gave away 50 €ounter £it Cabby forged banknote and Credit Card detectors. The device is to go on public sale later this year, but the manufacturers wanted to gauge the opinions of those who are in the front line – those who deal with cash / credit cards and who also drive (€ounter £it Cabby works off a car battery) – ie DaC drivers! Judging by the compliments and comments received at Call Sign, this little gizmo is certainly a hit that could repay the £29.95 initial cost with just one "catch!" The latest estimation is that forged currency to the value of £1.8billion is in circulation in the UK today, so the chances are reasonable that someone will try to palm you off with a dud note. It also works on Euros! Added to this, credit card fraud is now estimated to cost the UK over £1 million each day! This represents an 18% increase over the past twelve months alone! If a credit card doesn’t swipe, you MUST not accept it by keying in the numbers to your DaC terminal, as it will probably be a forgery. The €ounter £it Cabby now gives you the chance to prove it! The device emits a blue ultraviolet light to help scan notes and cards quickly and easily. It needs no batteries or bulbs and has 100,000 hours of life. €ounter £it Cabby works best in low light conditions, but that is usually when forged currency is generally and most easily passed on.
