On 30 June, Dial-a-Cab Chairman Brian Rice, together with
Special Projects Manager Mike Son, had a meeting with the
Corporation of London regarding taxis that are being
targeted along with normal motorists by CCTV cameras. Some
of the PCNs have been issued to DaC drivers for just setting
down or picking up. Brian Rice told Call Sign: “We met three people at the Corporation’s offices, all of whom are connected to parking and transportation and explained to them that we are not against penalty notices being issued to cars who park in places that hold everyone up and we cannot argue against tickets being given to taxi drivers who park inconsiderately. However, we explained how concerned we |

“Parking legislation,” Brian explained, “had been around for at least 15 years and really applied to security, but it was being used under that same legislation as a money-earner. We asked that our cabs be given special dispensation which would allow them to pick up and set down and where necessary, wait for a reasonable time. I explained that they could always recognise our cabs by the door logos – even though on many occasions, only the rear or the front of the vehicle is photographed. However, records can always show if the cab was carrying logos. Toilet breaks etc are a different kettle of fish and it may be that drivers wanting the loo or a sandwich will either have to find a meter or look for somewhere where | they can
legally park.” The end result was that following discussions with the CoL police, a consultation document with a parking and enforcement plan will be issued and a full council meeting was scheduled to be held on July 25 to discuss it. The actual document is expected to be completed by the end of August. Brian ended by telling us: “We felt that the meeting was very useful – especially when they told us that it would be possible for certain vehicles to gain extra immunity against some parking regulations and we hope that the end result will apply to us.” You can read the text of the Corporations letter to us in the July issue (page 12 – 13) or on-line at www.dac-callsign.co.uk. |
ADAM WINS DAC’S TELLY AT LEICESTER SQUARE! |
|
DaC Board member Tom Whitbread managed to put a smile
onto the face of 11-year-old Adam Mohamed Ali, after
telling him that he had won the plasma television that
Dial-a-Cab put up to all those who managed to answer a
series of general knowledge questions at our West End
Live stand at Leicester Square. All those names went
into a hat and Adam’s came out first. Adam – who has a Westminster Chargecard - was born 4 months prematurely and suffers from Cerebral Palsy, Spastic Diplegia, Hyperacusis and Aspergers Syndrome. But none of that stopped |
Adam’s broad smile when Tom presented the TV to him! So well done Adam… |
