DIAL-A-CAB COMPLAINTS DEPARTMENT

E14C
I’ve been asked on many occasions what the correct way to book onto the E14C rank is and because we have now amended it slightly, I’ll explain it here, so please take note…
The actual rank is outside Cabot Hall; this is the rank for four cabs and is classified as E14C. It is only when you are within the white lines of this rank that you should book into E14C.
The rank behind and to the east of the Cabot Hall rank is the feeder rank. Until you reach the main rank, you should be booked into E14 whilst waiting to feed onto E14C.

There have been many altercations with drivers waiting to feed forward, when suddenly another taxi comes in from the right. The unwritten rule for all ranks is that if a feeder rank is connected to a main rank, feeder taxis take preference over those taxis waiting elsewhere.
We have used the E14C rank from the time we gained the Morgan Stanley account. The

obvious reason for the rank is so that taxis on it can be outside the account address in one minute – two as a maximum - while having no more than £2.40 on the meter.    If we have no taxis on the rankand have to run one in, then they would obviously have up to £3.80 maximum showing on the meter.
So please do not try and travel further than you have to so that you arrive at the pickup with the maximum run in showing on the meter. Please remember that the Marshal’s terminals show them how much you have on your meter when pulling up.

Meter Changes
If you are one of the drivers who is not getting the fare automatically

appearing when you CLJ, you need to contact the Roman Way depot to have it rectified.
If you are thinking of changing your meter model at your next overhaul, then check with Peter at Roman Way first. No all meters are compatible with our system. If you do change the model of your meter, it will need a new connecting plug as all the connections to our data system are different with each meter.

Credit Cards
Any driver on our system who accepts credit cards, must have the centre window sticker, which informs passengers of the charges. If you do not have a sticker, please obtain one from either Drivers Reception at Brunswick Place or the Roman Way depot. Remember that most garages remove all stickers when preparing a taxi for its overhaul. So collect a new sticker prior to going back on the road, this way we comply with all information rules appertaining to passengers.

WANNA SMILE?

Well, if you read a newly published book there’s a great chance that you will. Roy Granville, who has written several humorous stories for Call Sign, has now written a book of racing stories which has received praise from both author Dick Francis and champion jockey, A.P.McCoy.
BAXTER Vs THE BOOKIES is about a racing tipster and his unending battle to beat the bookmakers. The stories are short, very entertaining and all end with a humorous twist. If you like horseracing or just have the occasional bet, this is a book you will enjoy.
It is available from Hayes Press, PO Box 489, Hayes, UB3 2WZ.

TAXI RANKS IN OXFORD STREET

Westminster City Council and TfL have been reviewing traffic management in Oxford Street west of Oxford Circus, with the aim of enabling the street to work more effectively for taxi and bus passengers, pedestrians, local businesses and residents. There have been extensive discussions involving London Buses, the Taxi trade and the PCO about cab ranks.

The interim proposals involve:
No change to the Selfridge’s rank, reducing the John Lewis (Oxford Street) rank from four to two spaces and increasing the John Lewis (Cavendish Square) rank from four to six spaces.
The measures are intended to reduce conflicts between taxis and buses in this congested area.
Over-ranking has been an issue of concern raised in the discussions, particularly at Selfridges. Taxis extending beyond the rank space impede the flow of all traffic along Oxford Street and prevent buses from properly using the adjacent stop. Positive enforcement of traffic regulations in this area will be undertaken and the response of the trade will be monitored. If over-ranking continues, it may be necessary to remove these ranks.

Westminster City Council will shortly be undertaking public consultation on other proposals in this area. These include:
Turning restrictions and modifications to the signal timing at the Holles Street/Harewood Place junction to improve traffic flows and pedestrian safety, the provision of a new rank in Duke Street on the eastern side of Selfridges, the extension of the Cavendish Square rank on the north side of John Lewis and provision of a feeder rank for the rank outside Marks and Spencer’s on Oxford Street.

Head of the PCO
