Call
Sign was recently contacted by a passenger who
wanted to put a message into the Society’s magazine.
Working on the assumption that for every 99 good
things we do, only the one hundredth not-so-good
occurrence normally gets reported by the outside
media, so Call Sign reluctantly called Covent Garden
resident, Mr Lou Myers. Mr Myers is 77 years old and a proud WWII veteran. Prior to the week of Remembrance Sunday, Lou – who is the Parade Marshal for the Jewish parade on the following Sunday – had been invited to several different Remembrance week ceremonies and had to use Taxis. He had four on the Thursday and a further three on the Saturday. So on both days he left his WC2 home, resplendent in his beret and hard-earned rows of medals, and started to make his way to the various ceremonies. "I use taxis quite a lot," Lou told Call Sign, "after all, trying to park in and around Covent Garden isn’t too easy. I’ve picked up the odd Taxi driver who doesn’t seem to give a |

toss about anything, but in the
main you guys are great. But I wasn’t prepared for
what happened on those two days. I used mainly
Dial-a-Cab taxis and on every single occasion, as
soon as my beret and medals were spotted, the
drivers refused to take a single penny!" Lou continued: "I wasn’t looking for charity, but my heart was bursting with pride because the majority of the seven drivers were far too young to know anything about war. Even their fathers may have been too young, yet here they were showing me the ultimate respect. I know that the public can have the occasional moan, but believe me, anyone who ever asks my view about London’s Taxi drivers and especially you guys at Dial-a-Cab, I’ll just tell them that you guys are brilliant!" Besides being Parade Marshal at the Jewish Cenotaph day – |
